windshield molding
 

iam getting my windshield replaced, is there anything speciali should know about taking off the moldings? and how do they come off?

I am pretty sure Black Dragon sells a nylon tool designed to pop the moldings off the clips. I'd recommend buying a clip-kit before doing the removal, as a few are most likely to break off when you remove the molding. Of course, if you are having a shop replace the windshield, have THEM do it all since that is what they do day in and day out.

I used a paint can opener. Place it flat against the windshield with the hook sticking up. Slip it under the edge of the molding so it hooks under it's lip. Pull parallel with and towards the center of the windshield. Do not put any pressure on the windshield or it will crack. You will hear and feel a pop. That will be the molding popping off the clip or the clip breaking (probably). It works best if you slide the tool along until you are directly next to a clip each time. Side drip molding snaps off if you place your thumbs on top of it and pull out and down. Get a new set of clips from Black Dragon before you start. The trim is stainless steel. Talstrip "Aircraft coating remover" strips the paint off fairly well. Steel wool can be used to get the stubborn paint.
