WINDOW RUBBER replacement....

Hello ROTOR FANS--

I have found, (well, bought), replacement window trims... I have the two (larger ones) that go into the window tracks, and I just ordered the two (well, 4 in total, lol) pieces that go on the inside and outside of the window....(with hope to stop the little rattles' that appeared after a few miles)...

I did a search and came up with very little...
I have never done this repair before...thx.

Does anyone have any advice they could lend in this job? I know I am going to have to remove the inner door panels, and thats ok, I just don't wan't to have to instal them more that twice...lol...,

also, any tips on getting the windows lined up with the 1)window track, 2) window regulator.....and whatever else it needs to line up with?...;)
Thx.

any help is always appreciated! :)

In order to install the window seals, you only really need to remove the window glass.

This is done by lowering the window until you can access the bottom screws, unscrewing the plastic grommets from the window regulator, then pulling out the window. DON'T TOUCH THE WINDOW REGULATOR bolts unless you want to realign it all again. Once you reinstall the seals, just put the window back in with the plastic grommets and screw back in.

The window should be aligned identically with before. Now, with new rubbers, this may make it harder to open and close the window - or it may make it easier. Using aftermarket rubbers, I found that the regulators need to be adjusted majorly but I lay fault with this on the rubbers themselves not the fact of replacement. If you do not to make adjustments, the procedure is described in the FSM and here:

If you use genuine Mazda seals, I don't think you'll need to adjust anything and hopefully it will make the windows operate better not worse.

its really easy, just peel the old ones out and put new ones in.

I ordered the OEM ones from eBay. Spray the insides with lithium grease before you install and it will help the window move smoothly. They come with a peel and stick section but otherwise slip right in once you remove the window glass as described above.

I replaced all the window rubbers on my 1980 and I did NOT have to pull the glass. As others recommend, some lube in the metal window channel to help slide the main window seals down the track. You will need to pull the door panel of course, and remove the plastic water protection panels (if you are careful removing these, they are handy as templates to cut new ones .) This is also an excellent time to lube the window regulator mechanism!!
AND, check the bottom insides of the door for any rust. good time to clean, wax inner panel of door (I did!) and POR15 any rust-starting areas.

I have installed the window rubbers both with and without removing the door glass. It is not necessary to remove the glass, I agree, but I can remove the door glass in about 2 minutes and doing so made fitting the seals a lot easier, particularly seating the bailey channel in the metal front guide rail that extends into the door cavity.
