This is a very common first gen problem. After 18 years the window regulators (the crazy system of gears and levers that make your window go up) get worn out and things start to misalign. Mine does it frequently. I've been told it's best to replace them, though that's hella expensive. You can try cleaning them and regreasing them to at least make you windows operate more smoothly, that might help a bit.

Right on.

Mine does the same thing I can't even find a replacement in the junk yard. I 've lived with it for about six months (lucky in Canada that means winter months) so... I haven't had much use windows that roll down. But I will try the grease idea and see how it goes.

Thanks
Jim

I did this last year. There a million screws on the door panel. Make sure you get all those off so you don't break it, you even have to take out those rubber squares and theres screws in there. Then, pull outwards from the bottom and then kinda lift up and out becausetheres some clips.

There's a number of steps you can take to improve your power windows. When I first got my car the windows wouldn't go up or down at all but now it's like they have a turbo. :D And I didn't have to replace a thing.

1. Clean out the switches in the console as well as the electical connectors between the switches and window motors.

2. Take the regulators out of the door and clean and relube.

3. You need to make sure the position and angle of the regulator/window asembly is adjusted right. Otherwise the window will not travel straight up and down in the chanels.

4. Use silicon spray to lubricate the window chanels. This makes a big difference.

I did the same thing. It works wonders. :)

Window regulators ain't cheap. I believe the manual ones go for something like $115 a crack...I doubt the power is better (likely much worse).

Victoria British has the regulators for manual windows at $109.95 and for power windows at $179.95 (motor not included.

Why? If you got Power Windows use them

If you have a broken arm do you cut it off?

Would you rather jerk off? (manual windows)
or have some hot chick do it for you? (power windows)

all joking aside, Revhead's solution is correct. We have posted this info here before (Search still works right?)
and in even greater detail.
