thanks i think they will be perfect if they fit right....

Its gonna be all in the tire.
40mm offset on basically any 7" wide rim sounds good, but slap on a tall tire and your done. Its gonna need like 205/40s to fit right if im thinking correctly. |
205/40. ok. i am going to order tires on line so i need to know the exact size. how sure are you??

205/40 front and 215/40 rear is good to drive on. I have 17"x7"s +40 all round, rolled guards.

I think the 17's may make the car look like its "floating" since it will make the car sit higher. Thats just my opinion though, I could be wrong.

40 offset is perfect with SE suspension, 38 is stock.
I run 205/40s on my 16" rims, and my speedo is still accurate, with that combo your overall diameter will be about an inch larger and your speedometer will be off, be aware. I have to use 1/4 spacers up front to stop rubbing. I have coilovers and 400lb springs |

The rubbing is due to the squared shoulders on lo-pro tires, works out though

I purchased them locally at hubcap express for about $8 @, they are 1/4" thick and I had to get longer wheel lugs (GSL-SE) which I picked up at a auto store who had a guide and the correct ones in stock, nice when it works out so easy. I had a sample of the stock lug.

oh ok cool. ill do that if i have to. thanks for the info.

For appropriate tire size use this:
http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html With a 205/40-17: Diameter: 23.5 (stock 23.7) Revs/mile 860.0 (stock 852) Speedometer will be 1% fast. Oh, and FWIW, with 205/40-16's as mentioned by aussiesmg the diameter is actually 22.5, so aussiesmg is going to have a bit more clearance than you will in the front... (you could get about the same clearance with 205/35R17's though, if necessary) Matt |
