Will sea foam help?
 

My engine has been sitting for a few months and it had been setting a year or so before that. It smokes when idling. Today I checked the oil level after it had been idling and a puff of pressure shot out the tube when I pulled the dipstick. Does this sound like it could be caused by stuck side or corner seals? Anyone think that sea foam will help? What is the best way to use it on an EFI engine? I am just trying to stretch the life of the engine because I don't feel like rebuilding the engine yet.

Seafoam will help unstick seals. It can also loosen enough carbon buildup that it may smoke more. Find a vacuum hose that pulls directly into the dynamic chamber for the best cleaning effect.

I'm a pretty avid believer in Seafoam. The way I use it is to add a full can to 1/8 tank of gas, then go for a hard drive. I feel an improvement in power and idle smoothness every time (typically every 3 months or so).

hold on, u put seafoam in 1/8 of the tank, arent u supposed to put it in a full tank, does it work better in 1/8 kentetsu??

it works better in an 1/8 of a tank because it get less deluted. im pretty sure on the can it says somthing about running it thru on a low tank of gas or somthin i dont remember but yeah it should work better on an 1/8 than a full tank of gas.

im a very avid believer in sea foam also. i raun some in my old DD 94 accord with 200K. i put some in the fuel, oil and directly into the engine. i instantly noticed results. engine noise was down, idle was smoother, and she ran better. i got my buddie to put some in his 2003.5 mazdaspeed protege over the weekend. we did it outside autozone. we did it in the gas, oil, and direct injection as well. after welet it sit after the direct injection and started it up, smoke poured out. the manager came out and said she thought we had set the car on fire or something. the engine INSTANTLY sounded and ran smoother. he was having idle issues and theyre gone now. i HIGHLY stand by sea foam and will start to regularly use it in every car i own as well as my girlfriends car.

Yeah at first i was apprehensive about Seafoam until i tried it. And i will attest that it does work. It will definetely show results in high milage rotarys, especially if there is alot of carbon buildup

My friend uses mmo. Either one will work to clean it up a bit

All I can tell you is that's how I do it and it works great. It will probably work with a full tank too, but just take longer to see the results. I like instant gratification, and the stronger solution seems to provide stronger results. :)

If it still runs fine at ~2gal to 16oz then that sounds like a fair limit. Stronger solutions tend to work better. I forget the term that Chemists use but if you wash, rinse and wash again it will yield better results than if you were to simply wash twice as long. Direct injection or stong solution sounds like the way to go and I will try my chemist friends double "something" method if it doesn't fix it well enough.

I seafoamed my seven last week and it was a sight to see!! First off I took the carb off and poured a little bit at a time into each rotor while cranking the engine between pours, (the motor started running on the seafoam and almost instantly revved to 4k + before I could shut the ignition off each time, pretty cool). After I emptied the can I let the car sit for 15min, then lit her up and took her out for a spin. I left a plume of smoke so thick you couldn’t see through it for 2 miles.
