Will a RB GSL-SE road race exhaust operate ports 5-6 on an S4 6-port 13b?
 
I have an FB and I picked up a Racing Beat GSL-SE road race exhaust for it. I was planning on swapping the header for a 12A header until I'm ready to swap my S4 13B into it. I'm assuming I'll need to block off the tube on the center section that's supposed to operate ports 5-6 on the GSL-SE 13B while I'm running it on my 12A.

My real question, however, is will the GSL-SE center section open the 5th and 6th ports on an S4 13B? I see that the header that RB sells specifically for the S4 13B has the tube coming right off the header while the SE header has no such tube...that tube is on the presilencer center section, a lot farther down the exhaust.

I know I can use the air pump to run the port actuators, but I'd like to just use the exhaust if it's possible with my setup.

Years ago I called up Mazdatrix and asked why they sell a header with a sensing tube in the header itself, even though RB sells a center section with the sensing tube in the presilencer. The guy said it's because the way RB does it causes the aux ports to open too late or not at all, thus they started modding an RB road race header with the sensing tube up near the engine. It's more reliable.

So the better choice here is to have the sensing tube in the header.

I have a 6 port in my GSL-SE and will swap in an S4 NA ECU and all the manifolding, injectors etc soon for test running before I throw it all into the REPU. However my road race header does not have a sensing tube, nor does my front presilencer. It even lacks an O2 bung so I can't really do proper testing. Reason: it was for a 4 port 13B into a 12A chassis. No problem. I can either molest my pristine header, or I can grab the other road race header from the other setup it will soon go in (REPU).

I've chosen to grab the other header and add the O2 bung and a sensing tube the way Mazdatrix does it in this picture.

That way the wiring harness works with the O2 sensor and I have a length of sensing tube removed from a presilencer. Note the sensing tube is 1/2" diameter somewhat thickwall steel. It has to be long enough to not transfer exhaust heat into the rubber material used to connect to the little nipple on the LIM.

I've never done anything like this before but it sounds like a reasonable project within my skill range. What are you thoughts?

Contact ArmyOfOne he has done this before. What he does is takes a few feet of metal tubing, pulls right off the outer tube's first bend (looks like thats what they have pictured there i think?), coil the tube so that it can cool the gasses and then rubber tube it to the actuators.

On mine i have the rb gsl-se header not road race the other one. It had the o2 sensor bung in it already. But i used a 12a presilencer because i had one that was damn near new. Right after the headers make the downward slope i drilled a hole and welded a peice of brake line tubing in it. Then about after 3 inches I put a hard rubber and steel reinforced hose and ran it up to the 6th ports. Mine opens Great and trust me you can tell around 2800-3200 it feels like a second wind.

Ah, coil the tube. Good idea. I'll see what I can do.
