wierd sludge in fuel filter
 

It's been a long long time since I posted in the first gen forum, but here goes. My ford powered rx7 has been very, very down on power lately and after a new fuel pump, ignition coil, wires and other things I found the issue, sludge blocking up the fuel filter. I've worked at a quick lube for 3 years now and after 3 years and countless fuel filter changes I have never seen this. BTW the fuel filter was replaced 2 years ago/3000 miles ago. It''s weird, like cream cheese I have never ever seen this, any insights?

BTW the white stain on the concrete to the left of the filter is gas that came out of the inlet port of the filter and evaporated.

Any chance the tank was lined with some of that epoxy stuff?

It looks like paint, ugh! Looks like something got in the tank that is being dissolved
by the gas. Like bshusted said, is it lined with something or was it? You will probably
have to pull the tank and have it dipped and cleaned to make it right again.

Unless someone put something in there but then you would still have to drain and
flush the tank. Since you have an FB, the tank has a drain so I would try that first.

Drained the tank last night and there were zero signs of contamination, at all. What I think I'll do is swap it out drive it around for a month and swap it again and cut it open to see if the problem is still there.

before i clicked on the tread the sarcastic answer was "its your gas tank!"

but now that ive seen it, i'm changing it to "that's your fuel pump!"

The way it's set up the fuel filter is before the pump, i figured it would be better to have the filter first to protect every thing else. Do you guys think having it arranged like that could've caused my issue?

The normal setup it filter before pump so you should be ok.

Your sure someone didn't pour something in the tank?

I would like to think that i don't have any enemies, it's unlikely but possible some one poured some thing in or tamponed my car.

Unless you've been using some very funky gas additives, I'd say you've got a new friend in your neighborhood. :(
