what are the widest tires i can fit on 14x6 wheels up front and then the widest i can fit on the rear? i have 195/60/14 on this wheel(is that the widest i can fit on the front? i want wider for the rear? i dont know if i'll keep the tire or not...they are decent but i want more performance tires.........let me know....wheels are superlites

What brand and model are on the rims now? If the engine is not seriously modded, matching tires will last longer because you can rotate them. Nice wheels.

boog 04-08-06 03:53 PM

only mild mods....so i shouldnt go wider just in the rear.....they are yokohama yk240's....should i just stay with these than? i just found i could have gotten this tir in a 205 instead of 195........my stock wheel/tire combo is 185 blah blah, now they are getting a lil on the bald side, but they chirp switching to 2nd gear, will 195's fix that? Do the wheels look ugly on these tires being so huge? should i go lower profile

205/60R14 is what im running on my SE wheels and on my 83 limited edition mesh wheels. you might be able to get a 225/60R14. i ran some of those on my old nissan, but i have ran 225/50R15 on my old FB

not sure widest - but calculator at miata link lets u play with sizes to see o/all diameter and width http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalcold.html

chedda_j 04-08-06 04:06 PM

Ya i dont know about wideness but i if you go to tirerack.com you can mess with series/profile. Kinda neet to see. Im looking for a nice set of silverlines to go on my car.

nick1 04-08-06 05:22 PM

you can get 55 series tires....i say look for something like 205/55/14, but its really hard to find tires lower than 60 series until you get to 15"

Paradox 04-08-06 05:41 PM

all i see in 55 series tires on tirerack are competition, r-compound, etc. probably best to just go up to a 60 series.

boog 04-08-06 07:31 PM

yeah, i found some dunlop ps8000's at discount tire.....195/55r14....even hard to find these, they are discontinued but available.......perfect for summer in vegas!!!!!(very grippy) i think when these wear down ill just buy some online cheap tires....or maybe just use these wheel in the summer and buy cheapo tires for the stockers in winter...ill post pics in a couple weeks when everything has come in

chedda_j 04-08-06 07:44 PM

Btw, do mustangs, 79-93 wheels fit on our cars concidering they are 108 pattern. Thats prety close, close enough to get machined. That or the t bird ect...

boog 04-08-06 07:53 PM

i heard of people doing that......but then others chime in saying how dangerous it is, i dont think i would do it, not like im the safest erson in the world but that desont sound like the best idea ya know......

nick1 04-08-06 08:00 PM

there's a guy here in the forums that uses "loose head bolts". i guess the part of the head of the bolt that meets the rim hole swivels, and allows for the difference...i guess its only 1mm all around that's different

i used to run centerline look wheels that had an elongated hole, and they were 4x108, and worked fine, but when you are bolting the wheel up, you have to center it, or it will wobble.

Paradox 04-08-06 08:21 PM

any kind of wobble at high speed would be a very dangerous thing...

trochoid 04-08-06 08:50 PM

I you are going to run the 4x108s, and I am not recommending it, make sure you have the proper hub centric rings. That should take care of any off center mounting.

I would stay with 195/60r14 all around. They match the height of your stock tires and are 1cm wider and keep with a h or vr rated tire. I run 205/60r14 on my SE with 14x6. I plan on getting some 215/60r14 for the back in the BFGoodrich street slicks just for some traction though.

The first set arent too bad.

Hyper4mance2k 04-09-06 05:18 PM

you can stuff 215's on them, but they are going to cantlever way out. 205's are designed to fit on a 6" rim. 225 = 7" and so on. They're allways made to be a little bigger than the rim.
