Hi! My name is Mike from BRS autodesign here in city of Industry, Ca. I Just got a 1st gen rx7 and was wondering if anybody would still be interested on a widebody kit for this car. I talked to my partner about producing a widebody for this car but he thinks that the car is too old and we might get stuck with the mold.

I decided to just do this as my own project and pay for the mold myself.

hey i tried loading it up but it doesnt work i work with fiberglass too but i was just going to get a front bumper and some normal skirts but if u come up with a better way to make us all happy and not charge like mariah pm me

hey man thats my 7 that u used for the base design....if i can seriously get the kit to look like that ill let u test that shit on my car....when would u need it...lol......i love the way that looks....parker

i like the rear vent on the rear quarters, cant wait to see it finished :)

I love everything you posted. Just a concern: The blue 1st gen looks like a series 1 car, and the red car is definitely series 2. It's complicated, then, to look at it as 1 mold, because in reality it would have to be 2, at least for the front and rear bumper areas.

Your sculpting of the front fascia on the blue car is gorgeous. On the red car, though, you've left the rear bumper untouched. I feel like it needs a bit more beefing up back there to compliment your aggresive side panels. Erebuni handled that area well, bringing out the rear skirt to meet flush with the garish bumper moulding, which itself looks out of place once the side mouldings are shaved. Maybe take a slight cue from them?

If you have to pick 1 series or the other, pick series 2. I would assume there must be a bigger market, and more importantly, that way I could buy a kit from you for my '83!

hey guys another thing to go along with u saying that u want the rear bumper beefed up a bit....i just removed it.....take it completely off...remove the shocks and shave it....now u have a completely smooth ass end that changes the entire look of the rear......ya i know u prolly thinking what if u get hit in the rear....ya well the kit he's lookin at making turns ur car in a fiberglass monster....it wont take that hard of a hit to crush the fiberglass....so ur year bumper wont help u at all if u do all the fenders...trust me i know b/c it happened to me......other then that tho i think that the rear vents are killer.....alright thats my 2 cents....parker

Speaking as an artist, the kit shopped on nopiston’s car sucks in short. Sorry, but the brake vents are just ugly rectangular holes cut in a Mariah kit. Dude, you seriously need to take some notes from the Italians. Make everything flow w/ the lines of the car. That’s just good basic design. BTW: I'm a former college design professor.

Thank you very much for your advice. As you can see, I am trying to ask for peoples opinion and suggestions about my idea on the kit. I dont need your childish attitude and response. If you think its sucks, and you think I need notes from you, maybe you should read your post and see if thats a mature way for a professor to teach their students.

what about a toned down version of "the purple car"?

It looks good to me but how mutch do you think it will cost.

I think I gave you constructive criticism & advice. You really do need to study cars recognized as the most perfect design models. I think I would fail you if you showed up in class w/ those vents. You can do much better.

A few lessons in “form follows function” from the masters. See what I’m talking about?

the red one looks a bit like a Porche 994, the vents are too how would you say, just there they don't seem to flow with the rest of the car, ya know, nice rounded body good areo dynamics and then there's these box like holes on a semi-flat surface; basicly I'd say they need a covering or better blending into the rest of the kit....thats just what I think though.

Wow...Looking at the widebody kit from the back is very nice and the front looks good too, but the front bumper and airdam are do need some work. If you could have the front airdam look more like the Wingwest front airdam with the side holes that can be use for brake ventilation or lights. You can also check out the ISC Racing airdam (iscracing.net) that look will be better than what I see on the blue car pic.

Along with a widebody kit, put out some bolt on fender flares in eurathane or glass, that's what will sell alot, cheaper for the lower income owners, much easier to install, no paint and bondo to deal with. Just my 2 cents.

Yes yes this is where my interest is peaked. Offer superflares in two sizes (2" and OMFG) for those of us making our petite little cars swallow a 17x11" wheel with 335/35 17" slicks

I agree the vents need to be toned down. the key is price if you can make it look good and cost less I promise you will sell alot.

Since you're the (former) design professor, maybe you can tell us where your "form follows function" line came from. My imperfect memory tells me it came out of Modernism.

The "ugly rectangular holes", as you termed them, remind me a lot of what I see in Modernism, RECTANGLES! And if by designing the vents, our new friend Mike has, in your opinion, commited some kind of sin of industrial design, then I'm suprised you bought that kit for your white '81. Look at the front fascia: Three huge "ugly rectangular holes". How well do THEY "flow with the lines of the car"? While Mike is "(taking) some notes from the Italians", you might want to take some notes from your own decisions.

If I were to pick examples of "f-f-f" as it relates to automobiles, Ferraris wouldn't be in the lineup. When's the last time somebody saw your Magnum P.I. 308 GTS and said, "Ooooh, that car is so, ... functional!"

Never. Oh, wait. Maybe you used those examples as your way of telling him to move the engine to the back of the car -- and maybe he should integrate a huge rear spoiler and emboss "F40" into the side of it. You bet that was conceived in a wind tunnel.

Additionally, in the classes I've taken, the instructors don't typically use words like, "sucks" when giving a critique. Usually it's the unmotivated students.

This is just how I get when somebody starts out a conversation with, "Speaking as an artist, ..." Maybe I'm just sick of hearing that kind of thing here in LA. Seriously, though, I'm not trying to flame you, I just saw an opportunity for some kicks, and I took it. And it's late. And you have a Ferrari. And I don't. (haha)

Hey, why don't we (gulp) get the purple car posted in this thread. WAIT, HEAR ME OUT!
Okay, I know the purple car is a guilty pleasure for many of us, though most won't admit. Mike may not have seen it, and it's likely he would be willing to take some styling cues from that car if the demand was there. And as long as he toned down the f***ing supra-style wing, it might be really great.
