Wideband worth it w/SE ECU?
Please correct me if I'm wrong about this, but from what I've learned about the ECU in the SE, it seems to be more of a simple voltage monitor VS a "true" ECU w/OBD2 ports and such as found in the FC and FD.
Does installing a wideband O2 sensor make any sense in an SE? Can the SE ECU even "see" the increased sensitivity of a wideband O2 sensor? Or would it be best to stick with an OEM unit? I'm not planning on going SAFC anytime soon. |
Stick with oem for the engine

a wideband will only be useful if you have the ability to tune the vehicle ie. carburetor, standalone engine management, or some type of piggy back fuel controller... and honestly the only time an ECU even looks at the O2 sensors feedback, especially on older more primitive engine management, is at steady state cruise or w/ very low throttle % inputs. And in virtually every system out there, O2 sensor inputs are completely ignored at full throttle.
as a side note, no Rx-7 ever sold in america was OBDII... as a matter of fact, the FD was dropped from the american market because it couldnt pass emission requirements to become OBDII compliant which was mandated by 1996 ;) |
