Who uses a Moroso oil pan
And how do you like it?
Did you lengthen the oi pickup tube so it will draw oil from the bottom of the pan? Any noticeable improvement? Any less oil starvation? https://www.rx7club.com/forum/attach...postid=2760073 Moroso Oil Pans Description: Mazda: 13B Rotary, 6.25 qt., dual trap door baffles, aluminum, oil pan Part #: MOR-20942 Fits: Mazda RX-7 13B Years: All Designed for street performance machines that see occasional strip use, this Moroso oil pan is modified with a deep sump for increased capacity and is fully fabricated from aluminum with a billet 3/8 in. thick gasket rail. Nobody - They don't fit on stock 7's. They are mostly used for "conversions" or rotary swaps into other cars.
BTW - There is NOTHING wrong with the stock Oil Pan. |
I've seen people use them here. Oil pan looks like it'll fit a 1st gen just fine!
I was going to say... I've never heard of a rotary dying due to oil starvation :) I bet those pans aren't cheap either (but sure are pretty)
I'm sure the stock pan is fine, but having 1.25 more qts of oil in there would be nice, bet it would help with oil cooling as well. Plus it looks cool, that always helps. I was considering getting the 12a version for my project, as the pan on there now is a rusty mess. I know FD racer has one on his car, hopefully he'll chime in.
That pan might fit the REPU, but it sure won't fit a 1st gen or any other RX-7.
you can overfill the stock pan by one quart and it wont do any harm.
I always fill with 6 quarts when I do a change. Overfilling is only a problem with boinger engines. |
There is a 12A RX-7 pan:
http://moroso.com/catalog/categorydi...?CatCode=13316 I wish they had a 13B pan... |
Why won't it fit 1st gen? Is there a clearance issue? Details!
jose vidal @ www.mazdadragracing.com sells aluminum oil pan. give him a call and find out if this will fit the 1st gen chassis. Just ask for opinon.
Yea why won't it fit? The steering should go behind the lower part just like the stock one, whats the problem?
sorry to bring this back from the dead guys, but I'm starting to collect pieces for an engine buildup (12a) and this is on my to get list, anyone else have any opinions/experiences with it?
i wana know the price.
summit and jegs both sell it for $235. Not a bad price considering what it is. Also, moroso's site claims it fits in the stock chassis, using stock pan gasket, pickup tube and dipstick. I'm tempted to buy it, would be a nice addition to my motor....
will it clear CP's rack and pinion?
carl. |
we got an aluminum pan on the race car....not sure how compares with stock one, have to look at my car. I'll take a pic of it tommorow and post. The reason a "deeper" pan doesn't like to fit is because of the steering arm thats behind the crossmember. Not sure if ours is moroso or what but i'll look and post tommorow.
hmm.. is there a main reason your thinking of replacing?
more oil capacity, and my old pan is beat to shit like all of them seem to be. would just be a nice part to put on the engine. According to moroso's site in order to get the extra capacity the sides extend out, so there isn't a issue with steering clearance etc.
I know of several racers that use the 12a pan. More oil is your friend....;)
bump for this thread since i wanna know also :)

I just sold one because it does not fit a 12a or my 13bT2. It is made for earlier applications. |

They don't fit first gens - unless you modify the shit out of themn Not worth it IMHO. |
Mazdaspeed sells a high capacity 12a pan. I have the aluminum Mazdaspeed one in the racecar. It does not have trap doors.
I bought and installed the Moroso oil pan on my repu. It has two trap doors to route oil to and keep oil around the oil pickup tube. And 1.25 more quart capacity. Comes with a baffle plate. But that early 13b pan will not fit 1st gen: the steering and crossmember are in the way. https://www.rx7club.com/attachment.p...chmentid=83805 https://www.rx7club.com/attachment.p...chmentid=83806 |
FYI...Moroso due makes a oil pan for 13B !!!
i will be using the Mazdaspeed pan. But only because the moroso will not work in the RX-3
