Who makes the best Street Port templates 12A

I am wanting to build at Street Port 12A for SCCA club racing. The class is Super Touring Under (STU).

Under the STU rule set 12A and 13B engines are allowed to be street ported. I want a race port for intake and exhaust...does not need to be streetable or even close to streetable

Judge ITO.

EDIT: Or make your own.

Just curious have you heard any feedback on the Ito port? I bought his template but have been kinda hesitant to use due to the corner seal is being more than half exposed over the port.

you'll be fine, its the biggest and the badest of the streetports.

How do you contact judge ITO??

Kentetsu 09-28-09 09:38 AM

Yep, the Judge is the guy to see from what I've read over the years. You can find him hanging out at nopistons.com in the engine building section. I can't say that I've ever read anything negative about him, his products, or his services. But hell, I'm no expert on it.

yeah i figured that...I have heard talk of him the few times I frequent no-pistons...

rules are meant to be broke..... remember anything worth having is worth cheating for... :)

Kentetsu 09-28-09 12:42 PM

lol, at least it is until you get inspected and stripped of your new title. :)

Better to know you're legit before you get inspected. Besides, I'd hate to win knowing that it was only because I had cheated in some way...

Good question. I know that there are published standards that apply to E Production. STU is a newer class and there are many items that are not well defined. I will look in the GCR this evening.

My intention is to build an engine that meets the Production rules because it allows me to go in that direction. Also, reliability is important....I don't need a hand grenade.

As far as cheating and getting away with it...... Porting infractions are supper easy to spot and all the tech team has to have is a bore scope. Which at the Runoffs or a Super Sweep National they would have. Also I race allot at Heartland Park in Topeka so the National Office and Tech staff are only a stones throw away. Add to the fact that in this area there are allot of well tuned rotary "ears" so cheater porting is hard to get away with.

Of course there is the real reason for not doing something questionable. Cheating sucks and a win with illegal equipment is meaningless.

I agree with you completely, but tell that to Smokey Yunick. He made modifications for the inspections to find to keep their eyes off of his real modifications.

Although I am in no way telling you to do so.

Also, While I was at ZOOM FEST, I got to talk to a few 12a racers down there. Said they had a race port, and 5.12 gears, would end up doing about 130 on the back straight at 9500rpm.

Smoky was the MAN! Actually this is a good survival tool when trying to get through an SCCA Annual Tech. They have to find "something" so leave off the roll bar padding...they find it and tell you to fix it and everyone walks away happy!

I used to read Smoky's tech articles and his answers to tech questions in Circle Track magazine. I also have one or two of his books. He shared a whole lot of practical racing wisdom that can be applied to any car or racing series.

Yeah that is pretty consistent with the EP guys around here. Most of them are running 13B's and spinning them to around the same RPM with 4.88 gears. We do have a 12A car too and he is just as fast as the 13B cars. A well built street port 12A or 13B in an RX7 with a good gear box will hold its own with a 400hp V8 down a straight away.

Thanks for the information about Judge ITO - I'll look him up on No Pistons

No problem. I talked to him about 2 years back... He wanted $90 for the template.
