Wheels Wheels Wheels!

Hi guys, I'm ready to get a set of wheels. I've been digging and digging, trying to find a set that I want, and I think I'm going to settle on Rota Shakotans. However, I just stumbled upon the SSR MKIII, and was wondering if anyone knew where to find a set in 4x110. As long as they're circles and fit, I'll get the refinished.
Also, if you have any other suggestions for wheels. I'm looking to keep them small, i.e. 13" to 15"

Thanks!

Try the Konig Rewinds, thats my next wheels for 15".

I am also looking at the rewinds. Cool looking wheel.

I like the rewinds too, just have to dig to find them in a deeper dish, I'm not really a fan of the bowl effect that I've seen with some of them(where they are convex instead of concave).

I agree

If you want classic japanese wheels just keep an eye on ebay. I see a lot of nice wheels in 4x114 and every now and then 4x110 will pop up for rather cheap too although refinishing can be expensive.

Here's some of my favorites: ssr mk1, mk2, mk3, longchamps, reverse mesh, hayashi street (same as shakotans), techno racing yayoi, tomcat, techno phantom, starsharks, and the list goes on and on and on.

Anyone running these in 15" on their car? Thinking 15x7,205/50R15 tire size on a GSL-SE. Any fender/tire rubbing issues? See them available in 14,15,16". So far only found them in 4"backspacing,i think close to what i need. Like 15"size for a tire with some sidewall,16" would require a 40 series tire that to me doesn't look right on a car from this time period.Opinions, tire sizes? Necessary suspension mods, installed pics?

Enkei has their classic lineup in 4x100.

I'm looking at a set of Enkei 92s in silver.

I'll add my vote for the Enkei Compe's. 16x8 gunmetal grey will be my next purchase.

One of my favorites are wide, black diamond racing wheels. There a little heavy but I think they look great on fb's.

I screwed up my first try at this, so will know more later in the week. For now, I recommend 15x6.5 instead of 15x7 for GSL-SE. You have to read this article, as it scares the crap out of me... Upgrading Wheels and Tires on a GSL-SE

wilme2,are you in the process of changing wheels/tires on a,i assume a GSL-SE?I read the article you linked in your post and this is exactly the issue(s) i'm referring to in my original post. What type of wheel and what size tires are you working with and could you be more specific in what the problems are you've encountered? Thanks.

I was stupid and didn't realize the Konig Rewinds don't come in a 40 offset in the 4-114.3 bolt pattern. So while the other 1st generation RX7s can run Rewinds, you can't on a GSL-SE without major work. I ordered from a local Discount Tire the Rewinds and specified 40 offset in the 4-114.3, what ultimately got ordered and delivered was 0 offset and 4-114.3, and so when they mounted them along with 205/55/15 Yokohama S. Drives, one of the front fenders had metal pulled into the tire up as soon they backed it off the lift and turned the wheel a little. (I should mention my GSL-SE has after-market springs, and is about 1" lower than stock.)

So I replaced the Rewinds with a set of Konig Lace with 40 offset, and all seems to be well. The tire wasn't really damaged, and I used a set of pliers to get the fender back into place. Since I didn't have my 40 offset request in writing, and since I didn't double check the special order before they sent it out, I am stuck with 4 Konig Rewinds that I need to sell...

Thanks for the response, sorry for your troubles and glad you came to a resolution.I'm going to be using RB springs in my suspension redo, they're advertised as about the same drop as yours. How did the wheel/tire combo sit in the rear wheelwells and would rolling the front fender lips for clearance make enough of a difference that would allow use of this wheel/tire setup. I like the look of these wheels, and it's not the end of the world if this doesn't work. Didn't happen to take any pics of your car when you had these wheels on did you?

TheRX7Project 08-28-15 09:43 AM

Everyone has Rewinds. Granted they look good. I just want to be different.

So I'm going to be like everyone who doesn't have them and get Diamonds.

Stock and Rewinds at the same time! But I really don't think they can go on a GSL-SE if you like fenders...
