Wheels and tires?

Hello! I'm looking at building a shakotan style 1983 GSL, and I'm having a real hard time finding wheels. I'm going to do some kind of fender flares/widebody, I'm open to running spacers/adapters, and I want something with a negative offset or at least some kind of dish or extended lip to it. Tires are really up in the air right now, something that could work all year would be nice, although I'm looking at federal 595's as they seem to be pretty well balanced. Oh, also something small on the wheel size, 14-15 inch preferably.
Thank you!

P.S. Looking at rebuilt Starsharks, and those go for 1100-1500, something in there on the lower side or cheaper than that, im not dropping 2k on wheels alone this is going to be my daily if all goes well.

Unless you do some sort of custom rotors/axles, finding wheels that are 4x110mm can be a challenge in wider widths.

I purchased Rota's thru 18 Racing and Konig's thru CARID, both are 15 inch wheels (use 7" wide up front (and rear for street) and have 8" set for rear for track days); 4x110 lug pattern. Sure these might not be the absolute best wheels for RX7... not the real Watanabe or Panasport but both have done well for street and track driving in my RX7. Use +20 offset that is very close to stock offset. Car runs on RB springs with Koni strut/shocks, no issues.

Use SA waffle rims with 13" Federal 595s for winter driving when roads are salt free.

He wants a wide stance with flares. I think he's going to need 8's in front and 10's in rear for the look he wants. 18Racing has many 4x110 15" Rota rims in wide widths and offsets, but I don't know what offsets will fit on what custom fenders/flares. As said, 15x7 w/20 offset fits perfect on a stock bodied SA/FB.

You can always get custom steelies made.

Prices are reasonable and you can get the offset and width you want.

For an old-school race or shakotan look you can't beat Work Equip wheels, but they are made to order and will run you close to $400 a piece. Weld also makes the Drag-Lites in whatever bolt pattern / width you want but they are more muscle car / drag strip.

Some Work Equip wheels. The ones on the miata are my favorite style. These can be had in 4x110, 4x114.3, etc in any offset and width you might need.

Work Equip 03, 15x8, but what offset?

WANKfactor 10-01-19 09:35 PM

15x8 and 15x9 staggered. I cant remember the offsets, but with a bit of camber and Ackerman spacers up front and shorter diff at the rear its different requirements to most.
Front lip is a cut down series 1 group C
Im thinking about getting rid if that. Just have to get around to painting the standard chin panel
