Wheels for GSL-SE (yeah I know, another one)
 

I've read every GSL-SE wheel thread here and haven't found what I'm looking for. A lot of that info is out of date.

I'm looking for a specific style of wheel. I don't want a retro look like Konig rewinds or a mesh/BBS type look. Ideally I want Rota Grids or maybe XXR 551s. 6/7 spoke, preferably 16" gunmetal gray or black, and something that'll fit inside the wheel well without fender rolling. So probably 16x7".

I've looked all over for wheels like this in 16x7 or 16x8, 4x114.3" and I haven't been able to find any. In the case of the Rotas, the manufacturer website lists a matching size but I can't find them for sale in the US. I'm about to give up and go with something totally different but I wanted to see if anyone had leads here first. A while back I saw a picture of a silver FB on black XXR 522s and it looked beautiful, I just can't find the wheels....

I'm working on an FC subframe swap and need to get bigger wheels to fit the bigger FC 4-pot brake calipers. Thanks for the help

I fit FC calipers under 15" steel wheels with a 10mm spacer. Have you looked at 15x8 options?

Thanks, I hadn't looked at MST before. Not quite the style I was going for but there is some good looking stuff there. I know 15" will work but I like the look of 16"s. I just think it's the right look for the car. I'll definitely consider 15" options though especially since it makes buying tires easier

we run the rota grids on the race cars, they do have 15's in a lot of sizes and colors. 16's will be tough, its just not a cool size right now

Did a lot of research on this very subject as i found a lot of misinformation and dead ends on the subject. The original SE wheel was 14" x5.5" with a + 40 mm offset. These are facts,all that info is cast in oe wheel. Info provided here is factual.I too wanted to fit as much rubber under fender without inside of wheel/tire contacting strut/spring and outer side of tire contacting fenderlip-without rolling fenders on a lowered suspension. I wanted no spacers or adapters,i feel needing or putting those in the equation are for those adapting a different PCD wheel than the 114.3 the car originally came with or making up for incorrect choice of offset in wheels being used.

I wanted the car to look period correct and oe 14" wheels allowed no increase of tire size nor is a suitable selection of any type of performance tire available in 14". I went with a 15" x 7" wheel with a custom machined offset of +33 mm. This allows 205/50/R15-205/55/R15-205/60/R15-215/60/R15-225/50/R15 tires to fit on all corners without any suspension or fender contact.Different brand tires vary slightly in height/width in same sizes. Ride height changes slightly with tires selected. With 205/50/R15 tires 22.5" in front 22.75" in rear measured from top of fenderlip to ground.

OP,majority of what's posted here may not be of much use to you as you having changed to FC suspension in front of car likely changed wheel track. I don't know this for sure,i've never done this conversion but i suspect it to be the case. You will need to source this info from someone that actually did this conversion and can give you the measured track width and whether oe FC hub/brake rotor used and then do the math for difference in track width between oe SE and converted FC to determine proper offset for your chosen wheel.

205/50/15 is a really common race car size, spec miata

Do you know of a place where I could find Rota Grids in 15x7 4x114.3? I can only find wider, or 4x100 bolt patterns

Rota is local, and he sponsors us, so we just go over there.

did you mean 4x114 or 5x114? there are no 5x114 wheels in a good size

4x114.3 like the GSL-SE. The front end is using 4-lug FC parts

Look at 18racing.com. They have all the Rota styles, although not every color combo Rota makes. 15 and 17" rims, 4x114.3, Grids in black white silver yellow violet gold gunmetal,... you name it. Also Shakotans, panaport-style, all kinds of stuff. Go to their site and search for 4x114.3.
