how much should a set of the originals (used) run???

forget orginals and get aftermarket

I paid $50.00 for one, at a local hubcap / rim shop. The guy was asking $100.00. These rims aren’t an easy find! Let me know if you find a source, I’m too cheap to buy custom rims, plus the stock ones are surprisingly light.

Has anyone had any success refinishing these wheels? What did you use?

At junkyards on several occasions. I would say atleast 5 times I have seen a set of 4, usually dirty and still with tire on the car. I have never priced them, but one time I got a rim/tire for an accord I used to have and it was $25.

im am the process of refinishing my wheels right now.
almost done one, 3 more to go.
All i did for the first one was sand the clear coat off with 120 then worked my way up to 220 then i used the 1000 grit wet sandpaper and then i polished it with metal polisher (i used autosol).
I did all of this by hand ,no power tools, took 2 days for one rim.
But damn, does it look nice, its like a mirror!
Now i have to do the 12 grooves in the wheel with the dremal tool.

I think the original rims aren't that attractive, but then they are light, and original...I know where there's a set of four in a yard nearby, and given what I paid for the L.E. "BBS" style wheels from the same yard, I'd say about 35 bucks apiece..

Really damn nice work my Canadian friend. You have every right to be proud. I went to Summer College in Sudbury in '66, Laurentian. Was runnin' a big Healey back then, He, He, He.... Keep on Keepin' on...

bolt pattern
 

hey is the bolt pattern for the SE a 4x100mm? cause i know the non SE's are the god aweful 4X110mm, which to find alot of rims for is like finding ice in hell.

How is everybody. The best thing about SE's is it is the same bolt pattern as the 4 lug (ford mustang). I got 4 wheels setting under my house I did'nt think anybody was interested in SE wheels. I bought a set of after market wheels for my car. I didn't buy chrome I got silver much easier to take car of and not so much polishing.

oddely enough my orignal gsl-se wheels fit perfectly on the 87 chevrolet spirnt turbo/ suzuki forsa turbo. But I couldn't fit my friends mustang rims on. Thats great if it worked for you. I tried the "pony rims" off a GT.

Nope. 4x114.3 mm or 4x4.5 inches.

4x100 is Honda, which is too bad, because there are lots or ricers out there runing some not too bad looking rims.

well if i were a teenager then yes i'd prefer your nice shiny BLING BLING chrome mags, but since i'm well above that age, and i like to keep my cars stock, i'd prefer image #1. :cool:

Although I am a big fan of blings blings, I prefer the stock look as well.

The wheels look great mate, but I guess I'm just too damn old to look that cool.

Some aftermarket rims can be nice, as long as they're not overdone. I do like my stock -SE rims, but I'm looking into a nice elegant looking set of aftermarket so I can have a little more variety in tires.

I have found the stock GSL-SE wheels in Pull-A-Part for $10 wheel w/tire. But not very often. I know Sam at Atlanta RX7 has a few sets. I don't know his price though. http://www.atlantarx7.com

FYI - A set just sold on Ebay (ref#593279939) for $212.50 with tires that had 4K on them - bids closed 7/19

To be honest with you all, I would have prefered to have kept the stock 14s or maybe a set of understated 15s.....

But those rims just look too good to pass up :)

The car was funny with the stock rims. Same Cosmo 13B and big turbo engine. No one knew a thing until I opened it up :)

You can bolt 2nd gen wheels (15") right on to a SE. My Son has those "rotary phone dial" 2nd gen wheels on his. Moreover, I do believe the pattern is 100mm for the SE. To see some good looking wheels on a SE check out Max7's. (see members, he's got his own website, check out his great looking intake as well)

For my Canadian friends...Any of you ever make it over to the Soo? I like to make it up to that general direction at least once a year. Probably gonna ride up that way come the end of Summer, possibly in Sept.

Wonder how many of us 7 Cowboys are beyond the 40 year mark, or the 50 for that matter? Heh, Heh, Heh....

You're sure about 2nd Gen wheels fitting? As I recall 2nd gens had 4 or 5 lug wheels depending on the model. Don't think I've ever heard of 1st gens fitting 2nd gen wheels before. Doesn't really matter as I want to buy a nice simple set of 16 or 17" wheels for the summer and slap on some Potenza's, then I can drop some nice Blizaks on the stocks. Finally drop my all-seasons.

I've been all over Southern and Central Ontario. I try and get out camping at least once a year. And BTW, I just turned 22 last week.

The 2nd gen 4 bolt wheels will fit an SE, but the 2nd gen four bolt (4x4.5) are ugly IMHO.

All right, Buckaroos....

I wouldn't put the rotary dial 2nd gen wheels on my SE either, but for my Son it works. He likes the look, and he puts more meat on the table, and with his manual steering, heavier sway bar, polyurethane bushings, and free flow (no cats) exhaust, his little '84 SE is really rather quick....Of course its Silver, just like my two Sevens....He, He, he....
