Wheel Hub Screw - What is it for?

Hi forum,

I am trying to put larger wheels on my '83 gs. I had the rear axle swapped out for one that had disk brakes from what I think was a gsl. I have wheel adapters but the are not mounting because of a screw on the face of the wheel hub. I can't find a reference to this in the manuals I have or searches on the forum for hub screw and other variations. I apologize in advance for my low technical knowledge, I am more enthusiast than mechanic (though I have been learning). Before I just take this out and see what happens I thought I would ask the fourm. My ultimat goal is to mount the wheel adapters, option seem to be either do something with the screw or machine a groove on the wheel adapters. Anyone know anything about this or have some opinions?

Thank you so much,

This screw is keeping my wheel adapter from being flush.

That screw is essentially used to keep rotor in place on assembly line when car was made. The installed wheel will capture rotor and keep in place so screw is not really necessary. Your adapter will perform same function so you should be good to go.

The drums had the exact same screws to hold the drums on. For drums its the same story, you can leave em off and the wheel will hold it on. Those screws are cheesy and soft as hell as well, so its easy to bugger em up.

if u leave them out, put the wheel on, rotate the wheel to align up the lug holes the drum/rotor will rotate as well.
