Whats the highest hp rotary engine?

In 12a or 13b form. Whats the most you have seen? How much with just turbo, no nitrous?

REVHED 02-19-03 04:19 PM

The most available from an n/a twin rotor is around the 370hp mark.

InfiniIIIREX 02-19-03 05:45 PM

Most I've seen with proof (dyno video) was 350ps (about 348rwhp) with an NA P-port 13B-REW with EFi etc, etc. I'm sure more is possible though. With turbo, the most I've seen on video is 710rwhp ala the Scoot T51R FD and who knows what else. Again, I'm sure there has been people who have surpassed that.

680RWHP12A 02-19-03 06:25 PM

my 12a turbo made 726 rwhp last night at 29psi, was going to go to 35 but the fuel pump maxed out!

mar3 02-19-03 07:49 PM

NYAH! NYAH!He is so brazen, sometimes...:p:

RotaryMotorDisorter 02-20-03 12:29 PM

726 HP, amazing. Imagine keeping that to the ground on the streets :)

i remember you posted pictures of the motor before, but i cant find them.. can you post again.. i would love to see

82streetracer 02-20-03 04:41 PM

the highest hp rotary I have ever seen was somewhere in the 2300 hp range. Its a 4 rotor periphial port twin turbo. I think they were t87s or something.

3rotor.com is working on something similar.

RotaryMotorDisorter 02-20-03 04:51 PM

82streetracer i like your icon. You got any pics of your engine, i would love to check it out.

MosesX605 02-20-03 05:20 PM

RX-7.com's drag racer pushes in excess of 750 hp, if I'm not mistaken.

RotorMotorDriver 02-20-03 05:49 PM

Heres the link to the 680 HP (now 726) engine: http://www.rotaryshack.com/pages/680.html

And heres a link to the dyno video of the car on the dyno manking 726 HP: http://www.wankelracing.com/movies/Mexico726Pulls.WMV

The sound on the dyno video is messed up cause the car is so damn loud!! Notice everyone is wearing earplugs ;).

In the Uk they have poduced a 6 rotor motor based on 13b components. The output must be substantial!

nick named "6 rotor v12 killer"
dunno about the output but..

GODDAMN!! Can I get one???

Little question for Robert(680rwhp12a). If SU carbs suck soooo much, and are nothing compared to webers, why would they put SU's on that 6rotor?

woah, just me, or did that come across a little strongly... haha...

perhaps they were going for cost when they put those on...

REVHED 02-22-03 12:52 AM

How do you know they're SU's?

ioTus 02-22-03 03:48 AM

THat 6 rotor looks recockulous. What would you put that in, a bus? thats about all it would fit in....

MikeLMR 02-22-03 05:10 AM

I bet it would fit in an XJS or an another V12 Jag mmmmmmmmmm 6 rotor E type !

you can tell they are SU's from the dashpot covers sticking up behind the airfilters

RotorMotorDriver 02-22-03 05:29 AM

I think it looks stupid too Geoff, but you gotta admit, in a way its kinda cool :).

~T.J.

Defprun 02-22-03 07:30 AM

Instead of 900hp N/A 6 rotor, you can always stick with 4 rotor, THEY FIT IN JC COSMOS???? 2000hp twin T88s?

LoL, I was just trying to see what he would say. For some reason, in the thread I started about SU's, Robert seemed like the only one that didn't like them. Everyone else said they would be great, good street drivability, and very easy to tune and rebuild. Just trying to get a reaction out of him. It's easy to tell, first, the air filters on them are ITG, who makes that setup for early Z triple SU carbs. Also, it looks to me like that setup is from hurley rotary, an english company that sells dual SU setups for 2 rotors, and triple SU setups for 3 rotors. It looks like they just put on two of the 3 rotor setups. http://www.hurleyrotary.com/images/TripleCarb.jpg

RotaryMotorDisorter 02-22-03 11:50 AM

that 6 rotor would be sweet in a first gen. Anything is possable.

RE Matsuda 02-22-03 11:57 AM

Man that 6-rotor is insane, I'd like to know what they're putting it into. Where did you get the picture djmickyg?
Man that must get the worst gas mileage ever, but still I'd love to hear it.

double post

pillage6 02-28-03 04:12 PM

I noticed that N/A, peak horsepower is at 9,700rpms, and turbocharged, it is at 7,200 rpms, what causes this?

I was surprised that my peak HP was at 6,700, I turned up my boost since then, is the power band and peak horsepower now be at a lower rpm?

MikeLMR 03-01-03 04:13 AM

most turbo's can't keep up with the amount of air an engine needs at high rpm so they restrict the rpm an engine can rev too... I think thats probably why anyway

Narcisse91 03-01-03 09:58 PM

Well, in a way, you're right. The engine will still probably rev to the same RPMs, or at least be capable of it. However, the particular turbo setup may reach its peak efficiency at a lower RPM. It could be the turbo used, it could be the wastegate used, and it could be the engine design. You can be sure, though, if the goal was pure top end power, there are turbos that can supply enough air to keep the engine pulling harder and harder right to redline. The ones chosen for this design probably provided a better power curve, and the peak just happened to be earlier. Keep in mind it's area under the curve that's important, not peak numbers.

RX4Man 03-01-03 10:30 PM

i cant see the 6 rotor motor!!!!!!!!!!! can u post a link to it? that would be awsome. thanx

-Angel-

pillage6 03-02-03 09:06 AM

Thanks for the info.

I noticed on my dyno sheet that peak torque was reached at 3500 and was flat till 6800, which is where my peak hp is.

I didn't think my motor was going to have that much torque to tell you the truth.

186 whp
160 ft/lbs

mar3 03-02-03 11:01 AM

Definitely air restriction somewhere...my peak was at 7100 RPM with a N/A streetport... 113 RWHP... 6800 RPM is too low....

Well, THAT would make "Project:Chefasaurus Rex" a HELLUVA lot cheaper and easier....

Sterling 03-02-03 02:34 PM

Anyone got a picture of this "Three piece eccentric shaft"? It sounds scary.

No, but this will give you a bit of an idea. It's the same concept except it's for twin rotor engines. Guru two piece e-shaft.

mar3 03-02-03 11:15 PM

Oh, my...sterling is losing it...who pissed him off this time? And sterling, why haven't you posted what was involved in getting the Kia gearset to work, foh? Most threads fell back to hearsay when it was being tossed around a year and a half ago. No one had a real answer and here you had it all along. when are you going to post pics of your wife now that you've figured out how to use a digicam...?...LOL....I couldn't help myself, sorry....off to the rexy batting range!! :p:

;)

Sterling 03-03-03 08:25 AM

Oh yeah- the Kia set- Well, I could'nt find one in a junker. Somewhere in my county there's a Kia in a parking lot missy a diffy!;)

I dunno- can you give me some tips on haow to supe-up my minivan? Can we graft a Mariah body kit to it?

And nobody pissed me off- I was just trying to keep up with everyone else regarding their autobiographical bragging sigs!
Gueeze- what's wrong, fellas?

Someone did piss me off though (and you know who you are, you asshole!)
I think he tattled to Ken about my sig.
It pissed me off because he complained in a thread about my sig, and though it is very obnoxious, it's not much longer than some folks sigs! (And in my opinion mine makes for far more entertaining reading anyway.)

So I got my wish after all.

Sure, girls. I could simply hit the "Hide Signatures" button in my options menu, but if someone has a simple blurb to share as some insight to them, I would like to see it.

I seriously DOUBT that the sig option was designed specifically for the purpose of listing all of the shit people have!
;)

Or posting 1600x1200 pictures of their cars. :)

Sterling 03-03-03 08:33 AM

Absofreakinlutely!!!

RotorMotorDriver 03-03-03 08:41 AM

My sig is small :(.

By the way Sterling, I read that article about the rotary in your avatar. Someone started a thread about the wolds smallest rotary a while ago and I linked y'all to it. Kinda cool to think about actually :).

~T.J.

pratch 03-03-03 09:34 AM

My sig isnt big - but I suppose I could always make it bigger :D

mar3 03-03-03 11:27 AM

We've already had one member banned for the sig thing, so I guess that's what's coming up next unless they don't have some unifrom policy regarding stubborn members changing their sigs.....we gots to Friday....
