whats it gonna take to beat a 79 porsche super carrera?
My friend is gonna be finishing up a total restoration on his 79 super carrera. What will it take for me to have a car capable of killing his? A V-8 may be an open option. If I end up keeping my SA, I want to be able to take him. I realize my the easiest thing would probably to aim to kill him in a straight line but I only have 100hp or less right now.

to kill a 79 carrera, use the 1974 carrera rsr (duck tail) one of my favorite cars
|
or a gsl-se stock :)

i hate to break your heart gregs, but not even close. think about it.

Drove a 79 Porsche 911 in a driver's school at Roebling Raceway. Its basically a stronger, faster car than my 7s. But you can give her a Hell of a run in the turns if you are good.

what'll it take?? another 50 hp should close the gap a little, makes a huge difference in an 1100 kg car, dont go v8 (my opinion) stay with the unique rotary =)))

  :bigthumb:
~T.J. EDIT: I guess it really depends on what was done to the engine, which block was used, etc. Model 1979-1983 Porsche 911 SC 0-60MPH 7.0 seconds Top Speed 135MPH Category Production (1979-1983) Engine 6 cylinder (opposed), 2994cc, 3.0L Horsepower 180 hp at 5500 rpm (1978/79), 188 hp (1980), 204 hp at 5900Rpm (1981/82/83) Torque 265 Nm at 4200 rpm (1979-1981), 267 Nm (1981-1983) Transmission 5-Speed manual Description Rear-engine |
I always thought the Porsche 944 and 924 was a more likely "target" to beat than 911's and 928's for modded but streetable 12A and 13B Rex's.
The stock but potent Carrera will post 13.4 to 14.6 in the quarter mile. The late 70's and early '80's were usually over 14 seconds. Alot of ways you can handle his ass. Pick your poison. |

~T.J. you looked at them funny. My Stepfather at the time used to have a lot of "Scarface" type friends (Miami/80's) and almost every single one of them wrapped their car around a pole on entrance ramp when when getting on it. |
