What's better???
 

So I'm removing the rats nest on the Sebey. I bought the 3L220 lawnmower belt that is recommended in the how-to in the FAQs, but I was wondering... Would it be better to get a dual belt alternator pulley and just run two of the regular belts rather than the lawnmower belt? I already installed the lawnmower belt, but I was thinking it might be better to just run dual belts.

it looks better :D but i always just used the lawnmower belt. easier, cheaper, and hell you already got it. if you find a cheap dual alternator pulley or something later then get and slap it on, but rock what you got for now. you'll be fine.

I'd go for the dual belts. My $.02, more contact area = better IMO

I use the mower belt, and have found no problems. It actually seems to be made of better material than my other belts O_O

It works better then the duel belt pully. The duel pully is harder to use cause the two belts have to be the exeact same length.

Well, if you're buying two of the exact same belt, shouldn't they be the same length?

Yep. My friend is running the pulley I listed above. 2 factory belts and no problem.

I figure I'll upgrade to an FC alternator anyway... Will I need to go with a different size belt if I do that?

in theory. But they are off buy just a little bit. you can really see it when the car is running.

I would not use the lawn mower belt 1 it is a pain in the ass to get on and off and 2 the big one i was driving back from oregon on the highway and it caused so much tension it sheared the waterpump pulley clean off of the fukin bolts I counldnt believe it I had to have friend take one off my parts cars and drive 2 hours to everett I had my 65 lb dog and my wife in the car on the side of the highway under an overpass for a few hours. I would use dual alt belts.

I already have the lawn mower belt on, it was pretty easy. It also doesn't seem to have that much tension on it.

I would still go with 2 belts if you take the air pump and go with an efan. You never know when a belt will go and you don't have a water pump anymore.

That's not true. You can still get slippage on the water pump with or without a fan.

I run the dual pulley on an FD alt. I use the same stock length belts, they work no problem. You have to buy both your belts from the same place at the same time to minimize the problem with the differing size. If you can get them from the same batch, they should be as close to identical as belts can get.

you have a light on your dash to tell you when the alternator stops turning, or you have a water temp gauge to tell you how hot things get

5+ years of personal experience say otherwise. There might be some slippage above 5-6k, but if you keep your belts fresh, it's not even a slight problem as far as cooling and electrical production is concerned. You only need it if you are going to be on the track above 7k all the time - again, just personal experience.
