What's the best way to make my car quick?

I have a 1985 RX-7 GS. I was simply wondering what you all say is the easiest or best way to make my car FAST!!!???

Thanks!

exhaust. that is definatly the first thing that you want to do.. get a nice free flowing exhaust in there, and a new fuel pump to provide the necessary fuel to it.. after that through an intake on there and you are good to go...

now if you have the time, money, and what to have some fun... port the thing.. a street port, or a nice bridgeport will do you well

SuperPhly 04-03-02 10:55 PM

What is a "nice free flowing exhaust"? hehe. And is it a bolt on? Would a newbie be able to install it (providing they had a lift, and enough common sense?

Thanks :)

riffraff 04-03-02 11:04 PM

yup.. easy as hell. un bolt a couple things, bolt the new one in, and you are done.

get some nice headers, a high flow muffler, and either a high flow cat or some presilencers.

Check out Mind Train, Racing Beat, or if your on a REALLY REALLY tight budget Monza for exhaust. Racing Beat has most of the parts as far as I know for bolt ons. And yes, as far as I know, the exhaust will be a bolt on type thing, and Im sure that if you know anything about putting a bolt in, your good to go (assuming nothing needs to be welded).

i thought the consensus what that monza was not very good.. if you are strapped for cash then you would be better off getting someting custom made. just make sure that who ever does it know what they are doing, and knows a lot about rotarys

Blitz0309 04-03-02 11:16 PM

i though monza sucked for headers, but wasn't bad for a cat back.

I have a monza muffler with a RB header and Pre-silencer and it sounds like the chainsaw from hell! I do not recommend the Pacestter (Monza)! But if you dont have the funds for the RB (like me) you dont have many options.

i think its just more the fact that the monza header is about the same price as a racing beat.

so why cheat yourself?

if you go custom pipe i would still get a rb header or you will regret it for several reason,
1 being the exhaust temps wiill blow through any custom job,
2 it probably wont flow good at all
3 it wont be thick wall because i havent ran into a shop yet that could bend it so it will be louder

im not gonna go oin any further

if you get a custom pipe bent for a cat back make sure its ss "stainless steel" dont go huge "3"" theres just no point

get a good muffler as well,

my muffler is not a racing beat, but it still set me back $140.00

some key things to look for in a good muff,

full stainless steel
fully welded seams
steel wool packed "not fiberglass"

it MUST meet those three requirements or have a very nice lifetime warranty.

That chainsaw from hell thing sounds interesting. One hell'ova way to turn heads as you go buy or smoke'em off the line. How much louder then stock tho, I mean will it attract cops???

hook it to the back of a porsche turbo and buckle up

zaridar 04-04-02 09:12 PM

I thought that exhaust would help but what about turbos or intake? Is their any other way i can supe it up?
Also how much hp can i gain from each upgrade? ex. exhaust, intake , turbo etc?

riffraff 04-04-02 09:22 PM

exhaust should be your first move.. then go to intake.

$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

Exhaust first..

jrios 04-05-02 09:12 AM

Get the racing beat exhaust, but like everyone said it is not cheap...you need some $$$$$$ to make a car go fast and besides you pay for what you get....if you get that exhaust and take that cat out you'll gain some horse power as well as a crap load of noise...but maybe a bridgeport later on when you get the cash..that should put you in like 250 HP and the noise is intimidating for other cars at the light specially a honda...only thing is that your car is not going to maintain drivability as good as a streetport...

MyRxBad 04-05-02 10:02 AM

I'd say go RB exhaust (if you don't have the cash, then stay stock cuz the pacesetter will actually rob power).
Then go to the intake side of things...

Or if you are really strapped for cash.
Dump the car off a cliff..... It'll go REAL fast... j/k :D

exhaust first
