whats the best spark plugs
i own a series 2 1982 rx7 no mods or turbo,
i drive the car normally changing gears at 3500rpm. sometimes i like to race people who think they are tough shit, but i blow the doors off them. i would like to know what is the best brand and type of spark plug for me. |
I'm far from an expert, but I think most people here will tell you to use NGK BR8EQ14s. I think some others use Nippon Denso too. There was a long post about this not very long ago.

NGK is best, they have a great range, I currently use B8EGV for good all round performance

Hey :) Jon the half-knowledgable newb again :P
So what exactly is the diff between the BR8EQ14s, BR9EQ14s, and the B8EGVs? I know I saw somewhere that certain plugs are more resistant to heat or something, but how does that translate into different performance? Jon |
I use NGKs. Recently received the B8EIX Iridium plugs. They are apparently a superior plug less prone to oxidation...but I have yet to use them.
As for the heat range it depends upon your application whether you want to go with a warmer or colder plug...I think there's been a bunch of posts discussing that. I'm going to try 8s all around and see how I like it. F- |
i had heard that running 2nd gen plugs (like ones from an 86 or so) would work great in our first gen cars.
True or false? My car is slightly modded, no air pump, custom exhaust header, etc. In fact, I am still trying to figure out what the previous owner did to this thing. :) |
NGK

They should. 2nd gens use 7 leading and 9 trailing.
The FSM says to use 7,8, or 9. Again..best thing is to select the right plug for your application. <F> |
BR8EQ-14s here. I've got an old set of BR9EQ-14s that are slightly worn, but reusable. RB recommends the 9s in streetported engines don't they?
I'm with slag. I'd like to upgrade to BUR7 and 9EQs when I get new plugs. Forseti, do they make a difference in performance? |
On my GSL-SE I switched from 9s all around to 8s all around. I found that at the top end ~5000rpm+ I didn't have the same drive I had before, but since I'm doing a combination of city & hwy, they're new and staying for now, but I was happier with 9s.
