What would you pay for a blown 12a?

Just as the title suggests. I might buy 2 from this guy I know. But he just said make an offer. What's a good deal? TIA

Hmm, i pulled a running 12a from a pull-n-save for $50 bucks, I don't know, $100 for both? I mean, you really don't know what your getting into, could have trashed housings and cost you alot more to fix, or you might be able to salvage both motors and make a good one. Who knows?

SoRRoW 12-19-02 05:49 AM

I wouldnt pay more than $50.

You dont know if it had a scared/flaking housings.
If it did I know you can sell the rest to atlease get your cash back.

85RX7GS 12-19-02 07:54 AM

$50 each sounds reasonable.

cjf 12-19-02 08:14 AM

$50.00 is a steal....if you can get it...I doubt it...$100.00 each car is more reasonable and still good if you can get it. But it really depends on the condition of the cars too...fenders good...any sunroofs??, how are tires?? what models are they?? really need more info... this is the best I can do with what you told us....cjf

Depends on what's not working. $120 for just worn o-rings but still running.

Wattz 12-19-02 09:35 AM

Just so I don't make another thread:

What would you guys pay for an 85 GSL with a fine motor, but a leaky (as in it's empty) radiator and a broken clutch...

The rest of the car is fine, minus being multi-colored and generally old.

damon 12-19-02 09:51 AM

400-700 depending on condition of the rest of te car

peace

jr69187 12-19-02 09:54 AM

For an 85 gsl 250 to 400 depending on rust.

Blown 12a i have never given more than 100 for complete cars with blown motors. just a motor i would give 50 or less i have never found a blown motor with good housings. and i have taken about 15 apart.

Ya, I was thinking around $100 for both. I still need to talk to the guy about how he got them/ what caused them to die. But for $100, even if they are worthless, it's not too much of a loss.

cjf: They are just bare blocks. No cars attatched;)

Move on. We're at a point in 7 history where complete dead motors are cheap, plentiful, and should come with dead cars attached.

Bare motors of unknown history? Offer $50 for both, top out around $80.

I'm suffering not being able to afford either of the two running or the one dead 1st gens that appeared in the local ads this week.

In a few years, as more and more 7s go to the crushers, we'll being paying more for suddenly rare motors and parts. If you're into hoarding, get them now.

I found out today that both have a blown apex seals on one rotor. I know this could mean lots of internal damage or none. But what would the extent of the rebuild be? New housings are possible, but it could also mean just throw in a new seal and be good to go, right?

JEC-31 12-20-02 12:08 PM

"Throw in a new seal and be good to go" LOL, LOL

Read up on any manual's rebuild procedures.

syklone 12-20-02 03:11 PM

Ya, I know that it is more involved than that. But I mean it could be that the housings are fine and don't need to be scrapped.

I went the the junkers today to see what they wanted for a core, and they told me that any rotory engine that comes in gets yanked and sent to atkins. That sort of pissed me off.
