Vacuum advance for the dizzy is connected to a port at the throttle butterflies which the Weber IDA doesn't have. Weber IDF does though.

That AC compressor is mounted pretty high.

I don't know, look closer. I can see the bare nipple on one of the advance pots. I don't think he has it hooked up.

Who makes that strut tower bar? I got a Cuzco last week (ordered in early Feb!) And while I love the sturdy design, the spreader-stud thingy in the middle isn't long enough. It only has 2 threads engaged on either side, which I don't trust. I'm going to need a machine shop to make me a longer one, to thread into the tubes further.

Obviously the locknuts aren't tightened in this pic, but the tubes are threaded deep enough to take ALL of that threaded rod. But only 2 threads engage (!!!). Either they made the tubes an inch too short, or the spreader thingy.

not sure, they might have made their own, or modified and FC bar, or just had that in storage somewhere

sucks about the cusco bar, its like the only one you can get

Yes factory color but we re-sprayed by first owner around 2000.

That's what I'm saying, it's not hooked up because the IDA doesn't have the vacuum port for it.

d'oh. I thought PS was on top, maybe I was thinking of the FC arrangement? Or I'm just not used to seeing PS on an FB.

Rebuild the 12a they are getting harder to find . Everyone has 13b .
rebuilt to perfection add a good fuel and ignition system !
then wheels . Fix the rest while you enjoy your car .

Follow your original dreams. Nikki blowthrough!

I've played with EFI and I didn't like it. Was too much work for not enough gain. But I can tell you a hogged out boost prepped Nikki has been the most fun thing ever. It even beats the NA 20B I had in there for a brief period.

details: partial recreation of a Pineapple Racing 12A: copied pineapple template on R5 end plates, mild streetport on R intermediate, pineapple ported exhaust ports in 79 housings, 83-85 "N" rotors, RB light steel flywheel and RB 225mm red painted SreetStrip pressure plate (remember those?) with OEM duty Exedy disc, hogged out 79 manifold, OEM-ish S5 turbo, full 3" exhaust, direct fire ignition (DLIDFIS), hogged out boost prepped Nikkis of all sizes ranging from 24.5mm to 27.6mm (boost prefers the smaller end of the range while NA likes to go big or go home... and Sterling only ever did up to 22mm if I remember right). Did I forget anything? Oh, an advance-limited dizzy (10 degrees max but can still mechanically advance from 0 up to 10), MSD 2225 fuel pump, Mallory 4309 boost referenced fpr, eBay manual boost controller. Home brew carb hat. No intercooler yet but it's not a track car. It makes between 200 to 250 HP at an indicated 15psi on the gauge. Yes, I know that is too much on a stock turbo and no IC, and I will adjust the manual BC down and I will get an IC for it... some day.

I mod all of my Nikkis for NA or turbo use. You might say I took up the reins... you also might say I do a better job than anyone before me ever could do, because I'm patient and we have easier access to more information these days... or maybe I just have a better eye for detail.

Dangit Jeff, your post has me staring at my disassembled hogged Nikki again... Can't wait until I've got a bit more time to finish that thing up - just gotta fix some other stuff first, such as my radiator, ahem, oops..... Also, 27.6mm?? That's barely a venturi at that point, good grief.

In regards to the op's question, honestly Jeff's setup sounds about where I would like to go, and so if I could recommend something like that I would. Currently I have a 'street-ported' 12A with ports similar to a mild ported T2 or a little past '74 spec, an occasionally installed hogged Nikki (which is a blast when it's actually on the car), and a few other items that my sig will show. In general my car's pretty stock, but plans are to go BC coils eventually and hopefully a Nikki blow-thru setup when funds allow. Best of luck on whichever path you decide to take.
