What are stock shocks?

In my Victoria British Catalog it says "replace worn shocks or struts with KYB shocks or struts for better than original handling."

But I looked at the shocks on my 1984 GSL-SE and they have KYB stamped right into them, but they looked old enough to be original stock shocks.
Does anyone know what came stock on RX-7s?

I've always have read that the OEM's were tokico.

Either way, what was "state of the art" circa 1984 is not the same technology as today. Hydraulic shocks were standard back then, the KYB and Tokicos of today are gas shocks. Much better :D I'll guarantee that the KYBs are better.

I'm just trying to find out if these are circa 1984, I don't have much history on the car as far as things being replaced, so for all I know they may be 5 years old or so instead of 20.

Most aftermarket shocks are built a little stiffer than oem to make up for wear that occurs by the time replacements are needed.

The stock front shocks were originaly rebuildable, no way to gas charge them. The newer ones are gas filled drop in cartidges. Much better.

I recently changed my shocks and springs in my SE. The stock shocks were Tokicos. I replaced the stock shocks and springs with Tokico blues and RB springs. Ironically, the car looks to be a bit higher than before. That showed you those stock old springs were gone and in need of replacing.
