what are some nice SA22 body kits?

some of the ones Ive seen are outright... bad.

JDuncan 03-31-02 11:10 AM

Yeah! I have been looking to. I'm just not down with the shoebox stuck to the ground look, otherwise the options would be more acceptable. Unless you are willing to switch your front end around to 81+ specs, you pretty much are left without options... Affordable ones anyway.

jeremy 03-31-02 11:36 AM

i lilke mine but it was installed by the owner back when he bought the car or there around. i have no clue where to find it now.

TheAMAZINGNorad 03-31-02 11:43 AM

I like the Kaminari kit. It adds a nice flair to the car but dosent ruin the front like the mariah airdam does IMO.

Chapel 03-31-02 11:43 AM

I think thats why Im leaning more towards an FC.
better aerodynamics... but a heavier package

riffraff 03-31-02 11:52 AM

if you want a nice front airdamn for the sa's you really are going to have to change thr front bumper/turn signals to an fb.

Yeah I think yours was a factory dealer added option. Also seen that same kit from Pacifica way back. But they are now out of biz :(

Chapel 03-31-02 12:13 PM

FB?
never heard of it referred to as that.
so 1979-1981 = SA22
1982-1985 =FB?

jrios 03-31-02 12:20 PM

I think that sa22 is what they refer to it in japan. I read that name on an Option 2 magazine a little while back.

crafoo 03-31-02 12:30 PM

Are wide body kits still availible for the 1st gens? I've looked a little but not found one.

I like the Mariah front bumper cover, but now that you all mention it, it does make the car look like a shoe box.

riffraff 03-31-02 12:52 PM

chapel.. that deals with the vin's..
79-80 start with sa22, 81085 start with fb. 86-91 are fc and 93-current are fd

79+80_rx-7 03-31-02 03:54 PM

I have a design for the front, and want to see what it looks like finished. What material should I make it outa??? I could use some sheet metal, or fiberglass, after I get it made, I could have my friend weld up aluminum ones. Whatcha think??? THANX LATERZ, Andrew

riffraff 03-31-02 04:39 PM

fiberglass would be nice and light

79+80_rx-7 03-31-02 05:04 PM

I was thinking fiberglass too, but people say it would crack eventually:( And one good hit it would probably crack:( I will make up some prototypes, when it gets a little warmer here. THANX LATERZ

Oh yeah, I would have made it sooner, but I didnt think there would be this much interest in parts for the SA :)
How many of you would be interested if it looks good? How much should I carge??? I wont be looking for much, maybe like $75-$150, depending on how hard it is to make it:) So what ever you all think:) Gotta keep hopefully soon to be customers happy:D heheheee. And if you have a good idea, throw it at me, and I will see what I can come up with:) If someone could draw, some front ends, and send them to me, and I decide to make them, I will give you like half the profit, or somtin like that:)
THANX LATERZ, Andrew

riffraff 03-31-02 05:23 PM

depending on how it looks and functions, i may be interested.. keep us posted

79+80_rx-7 03-31-02 05:34 PM

Will do, will do :D

I also think the kaminari kit is really nice. I plan on eventually getting that kit.

V8kilr 03-31-02 07:40 PM

kaminari is sweet,
but hard to get

Chapel 03-31-02 10:19 PM

oh, but I go by the chassis code, not the VIN
Ive seen the FB VIN, but the chassis is still an SA22, right?

riffraff 03-31-02 10:46 PM

as far as i know, the chassis code is also fb. but then again i donot know.. both sevens that i have owned have been SA's

Chapel 03-31-02 11:07 PM

were there any chassis differences between the 79-80s and 81-85s? (Besides the rear tails)

riffraff 03-31-02 11:14 PM

yes.. there were small differences, but i donot remember what all of them are off the top of my head. fb's are a little longer.

Chapel 04-01-02 12:36 AM

longer?
wheelbase or physical?
bumpers on later ones are bigger... i know that

riffraff 04-01-02 01:14 AM

i donot remember off hand.. sorry

Chapel 04-01-02 10:16 AM

my biggest problem is that the SAs tend to have terrible front and rear lift
but Im also not a big fan of big body kits.
