What part of the igniter is more important ?

The part (modual) on the outside of the cap. or the inside of the cap ? The reason i'm asking is that my tach went dead, and reading what the search function gave me. i'm thinking igniter. i havn't tested my spare's (2 sets)

the trailing ignitor on the outside of the cap...

There are only two igniters, both located on the outside of the distributor cap. There are a few on eBay right now..CHEAP..if you need one, I'd recommend getting a used one because the new ones will run you well over $100.

No, the new ones go for well more than that...used ones are in the $100 range from retailers like Mazdatrix...used ones from the hobbyist on Ebay can be anywhere, but how do you know they are good? Anyhoos...here's the diagram to test an ignitor...enjoy...

Very cool....are they J-105s or J-109s? Did they come off cars or were they all in some stack?

MarkPerez 01-15-03 11:04 PM

not sure, but there all made by Mitsabishi. imagain that
in a mazda, huh, anyway, tach works, car runs way better now. so i was running on one rotor ?

mar3 01-15-03 11:28 PM

Not one rotor, just one set of plugs weren't firing, the trailers...a good thing when you consider the alternative...

What's the difference between J-105s and J-109s?
I've gotten several ignitors from junkyards in the past, and never found a bad one.
As for the tach problem, you can switch the tach drive wire from the trailing coil to the leading coil
to determine whether it is the tach or the ignitor that is faulty.

Those ignitors fit in one's sock pretty well, don't they? ;)

Here's the storie,, My next door's timing belt on one of his toyotas lost the belt tensionier spring, so he gave me $10.00 dollors to go and pull the parts at the boneyard. it cost $1.00 dollor to get in, i went straight to the mazda area, pulled MY parts (igniters, headlight rings) first, put the parts in my tool bag,got the toyota parts, they asked $ 8.00 dollors for toyota parts. So i got in for nothing, got MY parts for nothing, and had a buck left.

It's a beautiful world!

I'm not casting stones on this one....I paid one time for ignitors...one was bad...caveat emptor was the reply for electrical parts.....they fit real well in a pocket, too....
