What a lousy day... friday the 13th the cause? i think so
I'm working on my car trying to get that broken bolt out of my acv blocker plate... i give up and just put heavy gasket goo on it and tighten it back down... snap another bolt. i finally say fuck it and hook my battery back up, tighten down the terminal and break it in half. then i feel like doing something for the hell of it so i space my hood, put the spacers in and close it, looks good.... i try to open it and my hood is stuck shut, i finally just get pissed and rip it open... denting the fuck out of my hood and header panel, i get finished under the hood and get a ride to get a new terminal. I take it for a test drive. Of course it idles like shit, anyway i take it to the track to maybe enter, i get to the track and it's closed... i'm on my way home, i'm driving along and suddenly the engine cuts out and nearly dies... i keep driving, the engine cuts out and completely dies, but cranks over and i make it home, i parked the car and came on here to bitch....i'm finished.

what is this spacing of the hood?

LOL... actually he did that so he wouldn't get pulled over for having lights on his windshield sprayers.
Something like that happened to me when I had a hot date :(
Engine idled like shit and was not stable, but we were in separate cars so she took me to her place  Anyway... my problem was a bad spark plug wire. the female connector to the plug had somehow broke... |
could be a carb adjustment...
I don't have a carb... se, but the hood spacing idea was something to do out of fun... kind of like a hood scoop in a way... i have no fan (clutch or electric) so i needed a way for my engine to vent a little.
It's idling like shit because of the ACV blocker plate not being sealed, it's held in by a single bolt.
Mine isn't spaced, I just dont close it all the way. Ehh, it works...
I spaced mine from the front.

hood spacing
Spacing the hood like this allows heat to escape from under the hood. My neighbor and his friend helped me pull the engine on my GXL, and they were telling me that when they were stationed in Japan, they made these adapters that would make the hood look like that. Sitting at a stop light you could see the heat coming out from under the hood. I rather my hood fit flush and run a cooler thermostat.
