What kinf of coils do you use?
I'm starting to like these kind of posts. I have a pretty dang stock GSL-SE with stock ignition. I was think of replacing the coils as a matter of course. So what should I use for the Mound?
Right on. |
I am using eccell but am going to try Jacobs the next time I need new ones.
|
I always used stock ones, but with the Cosmo conversion. Im using stock 2nd gen coils/igniters

Accel super coils

Jacob's Energy coils, the chromed version not the finned box...good for 45 kV supposedly....

stock. but soon I will be upgrading to something that isnt stock.
Now wasnt that informative.... Thinking MSD Blaster 2 or 3, but accell coils are easier to be had here. Still tryong to decide. Or I might just sell my car and get something else... Mike |
i use msd blaster 2 coils.
|
My vote goes with the MSD balster 2 coils. Here is why- I was fogging the 440 in my 'Cuda last winter so in order to keep the engine from fireing, I disconnected the coil to distributor wire. Thing had so much power there was some badass blue arcs going out the end to the terminals! Needless to say I disconnect the coil terminals for engine fogging now!

I use a pair of MSD Blaster II coils and 1x stocker (17+ years old). Works like a CHARM.
Remember kids, loose connections may not make your stereo flake out, but will stall your car at 80MPH, so SOLDER EVERYTHING :) hehe --matt |
agreed solder is good,anyway
i prefer the jacobs but there pricey and dont fit in the stock locations, which is why i run msd blaster 2 coils with dual msd 6a boxes, one with tach adapter. |
I'm using the VTech with dual terminal designed for Harley Bikes with a Jacobs Rotary Pack and direct fire setup. and a MSD Blaster Coil II for the trailing....

Right now I'm looking to simply replace the stock coils. So do the MSD blaster II or accell coils fit in the stock locations?
Right on. |
Both will, if I remember right....

Originally posted by Directfreak Can you post a pic of this? That is exactly the setup I want to do, and I lack imagination:D Thanks. |
Originally posted by Madman Yeah I would like to see this also... do you really need 2 MSD boxes or can you get away with one? Answer to burning MSD question!! One thing was missing from this thread that came up somewhere else and it was an excellent idea from peejay. Run the MSD RPM Window box (PN 12-8950 in the Jeg's catalog) to shut down the trailing coils before the leading plugs start getting cut by the MSD 6AL box... |
Originally posted by REVHED The accells will NOT fit in the stock locations. They're bloody huge ugly lookin' things. The Blaster's fit straight in. |

Ok, my fuckup. :) I didn't know Accel made replacement type coils but someone mentioned Accel super coils and that's what I was refering to. Those big ass boxy lookin ones.

I need coils and was looking at the blasters. (stock's are $240!!!!) Msd's i see for $39 from summit racing. Do they get cheaper or is that a good buy? Also I am looking to get an Igntion control box. How hard would it be to put one in? I am guessing u just take out the old "control box" (silver tin with the 2 ignitors inside on a circuit board) and wire a diff control box in?

I use the Crane Cams Premium Street coils from British Victoria $42.95 each. Been using for a few years . Easy starting and plugs don't foul.

Start another thread on this question because there's a lot of different ways to go and the members here will definitely let you know what they think is the "best" way to go... |
