what kind of polish(Wax) do you use for your rx7

i just bought a Dewalt buffer off ebay.
i want to try and buff out my old paint. and polish my rims.
does anyone have any ideas on what speed i should use for paint and for my aluminum rims.and what products i need to buy.
i have done sevaral searches and basically come up dry.
i realize you have to be carefull witha buffer so you dont burn the paint.
any help would be greatly appreicated

i used a whole bunch of eastwood scratch removers/ cleaner waxes from eastwood after we colorsanded my paint. Worked great. You can probably get them off eastwood.com

Meguiars Next Generation wax is teh roxxx. I love it, I made a thread about it.

I use Meguiar's Gold Class on my Audi. Haven't bothered to wax the 7 yet, because the paint is fo' shit.

I'm 50 years old and have done tons of wax jobs over the years, and I really don't think there is that much difference between them as long as you pick a name brand. I think the criteria is "what's the easiest to put on and take off?". I've used Turtle Wax, Simoniz, Meguiar's, 2001, and many others...I really don't see much difference. I'm sure there will be plenty of people swearing by their favorite brand, and that's ok...but I bet 99.9% of the people on here would not know the difference between Turtle Wax and Meguiar's.

Yea, if someone paid me to say their wax was the best, I'd say it was the best. :bigthumb:

But I'd bet you a :beer: I could wax half my car with Turtle Wax and half with Meguiar's and you couldn't tell me which was which.

This is my first attempt at posting a picture hope it works.
Thats my Portel Cable Buffer in the corner I used Lake Country Pads and Mequires Swirl Remover 2.0, #3 Machine Glaze and Finished off with NXT Tech Wax thats the orginal paint that had developed a shitty gray haze.

I use Zymol cleaner wax first and then put a coat of Gold Class. I don't know if it makes a difference, but I know the zymol gets a bit of crap out of the paint, and the gold class lasts forever.

none of this will help slightly faded paint will it? i hope so, but i was expected id be getting a full paint job

best by far is mothers carnuba car wax...made with naturally occuring wax...I have never seen anything else shine like this stuff can...it comes in a tin...you have to spread it on a buffing wheel...

I use Meguiar's Gold Class.

For bringing old paint back from the dead, McGuire's cleaner wax has always done wonders for me.

I use dri wash n' gard. Never seen anything like it. I've got shelves of cleaners and wax's, but there is nothing like this stuff. I use it on my Turbo rotary powered Kelmark show car and my '85 first gen. (Also once a year on the wifes car.) Friend of mine with a '70 Dodge Charger R/T show car became a dealer just so he could buy a case of the stuff. They also make the best metal cleaner/polish I've ever seen.

I use TR3 Resin to take oxidation off and other contaminants, does a very good job at it. Then Clay Magic bar to get the paint nice and smooth, get smog, etc... off

THEN New Finish polish for gloss and protection.

I just bought a bottle of dupont wax with teflon, should do well against droppings and such.

actually instead of using a buffer look for a "polisher" it looks like a grinder but is smaller and will not hurt the paint at all you can even put your hand on it and you wont hurt yourself. it works great for any wax/polish/detail job. I use a brand called DRI-WASH 'N GUARD. they are based out of arizona which is all i know about them. i got their products from a friend who detail cars in Puerto Rico and uses them religiously on Ferarri's, Porche's, Lambo's, and other high end cars. they also have a product that if you want to wash your vehicle you can with a small amount of one of their car wash products WITHOUT WATER!!!! bird droppings...Gone, dust...gone, brake dust...gone, and it won't scratch the paint. at all. these products are expensive so you should expect to pay quite a bit. if anyone would like to know more just gimme a PM and i will tell you what you want to know, also if you would like to buy some. i will be upfront and say that i will charge the price of product + S&H if anyone is interested.

Plus for the first 5 people i will send you any type of one (1) product for free to try out, and if you do like it you can send me the price of the product. and if youre one of the lucky 5 you can tell all your friends about this product and send them my way.

What Cptpain says about Dri Wash n'Guard is the truth. First, I'm not a dealer, but a real believer in this stuff. My show car's paint is 15 years old, it sat inside in a collection for most of its life, but when I got it the paint was kind of flat. I had the buffer and compounds sitting next to the car when my friend who owns a 70 Dodge Charge show car brought over a bottle of Wash n' Guard and said try this first. I did the whole car and the paint just glows now. I was also going to send the 1970s alum wheels in to a pro ($$) to have them buffed out, but tried the Dri Wash n' Guard metal cleaner and they look almost new! I tried a whole can of Mothers wheel cleaner on one wheel and it didn't do squat. I have no idea whats in this either one of these products, but they are better than anything I've ever seen. If you cars really oxidized I'd try a compound first than the Wash n' Guard as I don't think it has the heavy abrasives that are in compound and some cleaner waxs.

Tech Wax is the easiest to take off but it doesn't last very long. I've switched over to gold class and my elbows hate me.
