What do you think of this car...

I'm searching for a first gen rx-7, and I'm going to look at this one probably sunday. How much should I offer? What things should I look for, to prevent trouble down the road?

Below is the picture/description, you can find it here at autotrader.

1983 MAZDA RX-7 Strong 12a engine rebuilt by Rotary Restorations, LLC with good A/C serviced in June 2002. 109k on car, 5k on engine. Unique DARK GREEN recent repaint, (car stripped of all mirrors, handles, locks, and other trim before fresh color/clear coat). Car looks better in person than my poor photography skills can convey! New radiator, hoses & belts, wheel bearings, shocks, exhaust, and brakes. PRICE = $5,000 obo Call Jim at 703 691-9242 Fairfax, Virginia

So, do you guys think it's worth it? What's the most you would pay? Anyone know anything about Rotary Restorations? Thanks in advance!

Too much money.

Maybe a MINT SE, and that's a Big Maybe.

How much do you think it's worth? Thx for the reply.

Directfreak 02-19-03 10:07 AM

Maybe 3K.

Sounds identical to the car I bought.

Similar mileage on body, similar mileage on engine.

Recent light bluish complete strip down and repaint.

I need to upgrade the suspension, but I picked up my car for $3,000.

It's an 84 GSL with a custom bodykit.

Too much cash. I think that one's been in the autotrader for some time now and that's probably why. I would say between $2 and 3K, depending on how good that paint job really is, the condition of the interior, tires, etc. If you have to replace anything as soon as you buy it, I'd deduct that from what you're willing to pay.

And, you have to wonder why they're selling it. Just painted, just rebuilt the engine, just replaced a bevy of parts...hardship or is there something wrong with it? Either way they're asking too much.

Keep looking, you'll find a nice one for a reasonable price.

I'll keep my opinion of that color to myself ;)

I have personally seen the car.
I was looking at a white gsl-se that he was selling.
The gentleman restores first gens, he had about 7 when i was there, the paint on the car is nice and its in really good condition i dunno about the 5000 dollar price tag but its a nice car.
The gsl-se was listed at $3500 with a rebuilt motor, suspension, exhaust ect. but the paint wasnt that good and i wasnt in the position to buy it so i didnt.
I was also wondering if the gsl-se wasnt yet sold, if you could get back to me on that it would be great.
hopefully i could be of some help

Check your pm's, HadaGSL-SE. That white car sold, btw.

yeah, the white car sold a few weeks ago.... the green car is pretty nice, but the paint has quite a few flaws in it... mechanically though, it's sound.... Jim's a really good guy, has a LOT of parts....
