What counts as stock?
 

So I'm getting my car ready for autocrossing. I figure it's cheaper than Spec-7 and I don't have to drive hours away to Summit Point or VIR...

It needs shocks and tires...

Considering Tokico blues since they're cheap and non-adjustable... That adjustable stuff I know will end up pushing me outta stock class...

I'm told the used TMC springs should be Spec7 legal... What about SCCA Solo2?

Do I need to keep the original Bridgestone series tires that came on the car? I'm gonna search the section for a good 13 inch tire for the car.

adjustable shocks won't kick you out of stock class
go to the scca website and look up the stock class rules before diving in.

I don't believe that shocks will push into a higher category. Aftermarket springs or wheels will. Tires won't as long as they are street tires.

I ran my first event a couple of days ago. I ended up in "street prepared" due to my RB exhaust (header). There was another 7 there that had aftermarket/lowered springs, but he raced in the stock class anyway so I don't know how closely they check the things that aren't "obvious".

they won't be super critical at the local level, but another bit of misinformation here is, you don't have to run "street" tires. Stock Class allows you to run DOT-R tires. Try going here to download the .pdf rules for SCCA Solo II. There are other organizations around, but this is a good place to start. It is an absolute blast to do this. If you have done things to your car, don't worry about it, there will be a class to accomodate you, chances are you won't be competitive at first anyway. Off hand I know any exhaust work before the cat nix's you, any engine work; or intake, after market carb all bump you out (or are supposed to). Original sized wheels are needed, and I think suspension is a sloshy area, any DOT rated tire is legal. Go to SCCA.com and find your local region and ask them, and check the rules

Man they are strict around here. My corsica ad to run in the class where you have done all kinds of work and the car is nowhere near stock(cant think of the name sorry), I had to run against prepped FDs and vettes needless to say I didnt fair to well.

Yeah, it is typical to see things like that here also, but as long as you are there to have fun first (and MAYBE be competitive SOMETIMES) you will have a blast. Many first timers find that even small improvements to their car bumps them way up into a modified class.

Yeah, you have to figure how much is invested. So what if what'shisname beat you, when he was driving a 40,000 dollar car with another 20k in mods...

My buddy currently has an 05 STI, but needs to sell it due to the impending arrival of a new baby. I've just about got him talked into picking up a RX7, so we can race against each other in more of a "fair" competition. But in an autocross, I wouldn't be too afraid to go against his STI. They are pretty heavy cars, and the extremely tight course might give me enough of an advantage over him...

front swaybar
drop in filter
R-compounds
harness
rollbar
exhaust

And if you're going to be attending any BIG events, make sure all of your trim and interior is still there.....

I'm gonna see if I can't get by with those TMC springs as well. That appears to be the only difference between the Spec7 rules and the SCCA E-Stock classing rules for the RX-7...

Aside from, they say you can't remove the rear sway bar... But RX-7 S models came without it from the factory... Would it be possible to drop it off my GS (links are screwed up anyhow.) and consider it as an S model? (Probably remove the power mirrors as well.)

You would have to convert EVERYTHING over to S-model specs.... Personally, I'd leave the rear bar on for autocrossing anyways...... Have you installed an LSD yet?

Nah. I've got a GSL-SE pumpkin that I've gotta gut... And I've got my GSL in the back yard...

Still sorting out the parts breakdown of the GSL vs GSL-SE pumpkin, aside form the gear ratio.

I'm gonna take a cue from you in that the drum brake rear end is lighter than the disc brake, or I might as well just get teh whole rear axle off the GSL.

just go out there and drive it like it is, worry about mods later (as long as it is running now)...

It won't pass tech with the tires it's got on now.

One rear swaybar link is torn apart. I have to go get new links or remove the bar.

And the suspension is getting a bit old.

I didn't see any rules concerning the OMP system.

Does anyone run premix or an external OMP resivour adapter in Stock class or Spec7?

since you cant remove the rear bar (81+ all have a rear bar, its only the 79-80's its an option), maybe screwed up links are the next best thing, hint hint

If it's not stated in the rulebook, it's not allowed.... On the local level, I don't think anybody will give you any grief though....
