If you go with a cheap clutch, you'll be replacing it again in about two years if you do any hard driving. Use your refund and get a good clutch. You don't want to pull the engine and tranny again any time soon. I personally am running a Center-Force Dual-Friction clutch I got almost 7 years ago. It has survived two trannies and one engine and it cost $300 way back when. I think they run just north of $350 now...and, no, none of the weights have fallen off. I have no drivetrain vibrations which would tell me quickly that one had fallen off...big myth, if you ask me...

I love center force, very durable and hold up well to abuse

IMO, the RB street/strip clutch seems like a good choice (it's what I'll be buying). RB is a tried and true company and those that have the clutch seem to like it. Not too pricey either.

I have no problems with cheap $120 replacement clutches. I am very hard on clutches. :)
Hmm... Say can you do an experiment for us? Put a 4-puck clutch in your car and let us know how long you go before breaking 3rd gear. :) |
When are you gonna tool up for some dog-leg gears to make our trannies bullet-proof, peejay? You now you can do it! You'll make money, too! C'mon!

Do what now?
I think you are confusing dog gears with a dog leg shift pattern... :) Dog gears have 6 or 7 big huge face teeth ("dogs") on the side of the gear instead of synchro splines. You shift and it just goes CLACK into gear. A standard shift pattern like ours is 135 24R A dog-leg First pattern is R24 135 Now You Know. :) I do have a project going on for a pro-shifted tranny but I bet it will be very weak. Should be fun while it lasts though! I'd also like to do a Miata trans (which has the closest gears 1-4) and change 5th gear to somethng really deep like 4.5:1 or so, and reposition 5th and Reverse gears, and then alter the positioning of the shift forks. All just to have a 1:1 Fifth, a super-low First, and a dogleg pattern. :) Now all I need is money. Lots of money. And possibly my own machine shop, and a few years in a machinists' trade school. :) |
What about having a tranny shop set up a stock box, a'la dog leg?
