What is the best way to close the vacuum lines in a stock 83 carb?

Having vacuum problems on carb nothing seems to completely block them off. What is the best way without using vacuum caps ?

BMS2004 11-30-04 01:41 PM

what are you trying to block off?

MarkPerez 11-30-04 01:44 PM

vacum caps,,,,,that fit. you don't want to like use silicone, but sometimes it is a real good way to cap off vacum openings. so is vacum caps. if a vacum cap leaks, use a hose clamp or a zip tie.

without using vacuum caps i'vae had luck with threading a oversized screw in there making sure its little larger than hose your trying to block off.

I used a zip tie on a vacuum cap yesterday when the nipple I was trying to block was a little less than snug in the cap. Now it shouldn't ever leak (until the rubber of the cap degrades lol).

I like golf tees. :)

rotarypower83 11-30-04 04:21 PM

golf tees do they really work

mpetersrx7 11-30-04 05:59 PM

Sure do. I have also heard of people using bbs and a clamp. Golf tees are just easier to install and remove.

Just don't use anything that can detach and end up in the floats... IE, don't use silicon out of a tube or goop. Vacuum caps with a zip tie is a good idea.

A rubber hose with a screw or if you dont like the way that looks, use the hose with some silicone in it. Works for me!

The reason I don't like screws is that it is breaking up the brittle rubber as you screw it in. These little pieces can end up in the floats or jets, etc causing a rebuild.

Use the colored vac caps, they are not rubber, and seem to fit tighter.
They also last longer.

Uh, dont use old shitty hoses! Very easy and cheap to get a new hose!
