From the looking at it on a lift(which my mech. failed to spot) its coming from the lower part of the oil cooler. When i purchased the car i looked in from the front and noticed nothing. once on the lift looking at it from behind i can see that its leeking from there. dont know if its cause i replaced the oil (more than 5 years old) and now everythings moving inside which is causing it to leak or it has been leaking.

Can it be that i just need to replace the lines?

Whats the best aftermarket replacement oil cooler and all components?

How hard is the install going to be?

I ordered the digital fsm off of ebay so i will get a better understanding of what is required but will i need any special tools?

You could either get new o rings that fit under the oil cooler, probably whats leaking I'd bet. There are two that fit righ under the cooler. I'd also replace the two coolant lines underther, as the oil soaking into them weakens them. What I would do though, is buy a used cooler and lines from an fc and install it. https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.p...highlight=fmoc

That's where it seems to be leaking from. The lines are very soft from the age I bet. I just want to stay original as far as replacement. Wish I had a lift at home.

How hard is it to replace the o ring and the main lines?

 

Be very carefull if you work on the cooler. The bungs on the cooler are very fragile and will crack if you over tighten them. Your leak may be from such a crack, examine the bungs closely. If you do replace the lines be sure to use new crush washers, another common source of leaks.

That should do it. That is anything that could cause your leak other than the oil cooler bung, cross your fingers.

 

What oil cooler do you have? The beehive or the front mounted one?

 

i dont know its a 82 gsl. its behind the radiator.

Yeah he has the front mounted one in an 82. bung leaks are pretty common on those.

 

Ok finally found where the leak is coming from. It's the top bung and here's a pic.

There dosent seem to be any cracks in it but as.im looking down with the engine running I can see it forming on the top but cannot pinpoint it. You guys think it's coming from the connection?

 

Well remived the oil cooler from the bottom and could not find one crack. So I put everything back together and now there's no leaks...... Probably just needed to be tightened.
