weber 48 IDA info needed
just got her started, but I dont have any Idea of where to get some good info on them, every thing that Ive found is specific to something else with the mention of the 48 IDA, ANY links or info would help out, Will this carb always idle rough (bounces) or is that just the half bridge(I know I know thats not an Ideal setup but it is what I got please dont remind me) enging that does that. The light throttle response is quite smooth acceleration 1500/2500rpm , but bucks in a coast situation(engine is still breaking in so I cant let it really go yet). I'm going to open up the carb tomorrow and see whats in there but, if any of these symptoms ring a bell please dont hesitate to tell.

How is the carb set up now?
What size chokes? What emulsion tubes? What idle jets? What main jets? What air correctors? What needle and seat? Do you have either an EGT or air/fuel guage? If you do, how is it reading? I know that's a lot of questions, but it's hard to help you without those specifics. Yes, half bridge motors do idle roughly. |
Its only a half-bridge. so idle should be as smooth as a streetport. I recommend learning about your carb first. So spend a few hours reading, then send me PM.

sorta same topic.
is the Weber carb a good carb for a 1/2BP? or is there something better? Is the 48 a better choice than the 51 for the same application? |
Weber IDA is a little bit more pricey but you only have to invest once. It fits most IF NOT ALL applications. Say you want to upgrade to bridge or P-Port...it will only cost $150 to convert it to a 51 IDA.

I gotta still rip it down and find out the specifics probably not fora week cause Im supposed to go out of town and I dont want to forget how it all goes back together,
is the Weber carb a good carb for a 1/2BP? or is there something better? Is the 48 a better choice than the 51 for the same application? Mine is not to bad but not nice either but I havent even begun to work the bugs out. dont listen to me wacky racer knows much better than my self, I'm just learning |
I have a 48 IDA weber on my half bridgeport 12A and i have a lumpy idle like a have a huge cam. I'm running a 12.5 AFM from about 1800 rpm all the way to 9500rpm. During cruising under 4000 rpm my car bucks a little bit. My father in-law has work on rotary engines for the last 26 years and said the lumpy idle is normal for the bridge.
|
So the low rpm bucking is normal, its been so long since I drove my stockport but I seem to remember it diong that too (no nearly as bad) at really low rpm, lumpy idle definatly but how high should it be set mine seems most comfortable at 1400rpm, any lower and it doesnt like to start,
what is better to get ? an egt or an air/fuel guage, I have neither so I will go and get one but which is more practicle? I just used the colour tune plug and it is a pain in the ass, so I just set it a bit ritch according to that thing, I'm gonna get an air/fuel guage and or egt and then go from there. |
Yeah mine likes the 1400-1600 rpm range as well. My wifes parents own a custom car shop an di just used there innovative a/f meter. Its a little harder to blow our n/a engines so if you can just access a meter to use for a bit it should be fine. I myself would like to install a A/F guage in the car cause it never hurts to see whats going on.
