Water Pump

Well it died today. So it only took about an hour to take it off at the most. My question is should I replace the gasket on the water pump housing? The water pump itself has a gasket that will be replaced. It just seems like pulling the entire housing off will be at leat a whole day project.

Any suggestions?

i did mine 45min, that was the first time for me. I didn't have a gasket there, like i should of, so all i did was use gasket sealer (alot of it). I hope it works for me. but i would suggest doing it properly and getting the gasket. But if it looks good and dosen't leak there then i wouldn't worry about it to much. Its totally up to you though. good luck

My '85 didn't have a gasket under the water pump housing. The replacement pump came with a gasket but it didn't fit. I ended up smearing some liquid gasket goop from a tube on the machined surfaces and it has been working fine ever since.

well john, I can't speak for a 13b, but for my 12a it only took a couple hours to take the housing and pump off (removed as one piece) changed the wp houseing gasket and the wp gasket along with a new pump and works great. Its not a very hard job, unless theres a lot of stuff in the way on a SE engine, is there?
