Want opinions on solid motor mounts & torque braces.
 

Hey guys,

I've been heavily considering the solid aluminum engine mounts that are selling on e-bay right now as a performance upgrade. I'm trying to squeeze as much power out of my stockport 12A as humanly possible. However, I've also considered going with an engine torque brace as well. I guess my question is, are there any unfavorable side effects from solid engine mounts or torque braces?

It seems to me like solid engine mounts would really stress the frame of the car, and/or the engine mount bracket. With a lot of stress like that over time I would expect something to fail eventually just from fatigue in the steel. Has anyone ever experienced stress cracks or fatigue failures in their car when using solid engine mounts or torque braces?

Also, do solid mounts and torque braces add a lot of vibration to the car? I wouldn't think that a rotary would be very harsh even with these items installed. The engine is so smooth anyway I would be suprised if you could even tell a difference. Anyone with any knowledge or advice, please chip in. I'm interested!

It stands to reason that the car will experience more vibration with the solid mounts, but I'm not sure that there would be that much more stress on the car's frame. We're not talking about a high-torque motor here, any twist is fairly minimal.

I tried solids and didn't like them very much. I got a good used stock motor mount to replace the sagging one and it worked a lot better. If necessary, I'll use a torque brace to reduce twisting, if it ever becomes a problem.

Don't get the solid mounts for a street driven car. Get the competition mounts...
