walbro 255 lph fuel pump rewire

I've heard of people rewiring there fuel pump to compensate for the higher current pull of a walbro, and since my fuel pump isent getting any power anyway I figured what the hell. I need a wiring diagram or maybe a good write up.
any help is appreciated.

If yours isn't getting ANY power, I don't think that switching pumps will help. At any rate, you do not have to wire anything to compensate for the higher current flow. There is nothing special, the Carter wires in just like your original was and thats it.

well I wasent replacing the pump because the stock one wasent getting power. I needed a bigger fuel pump and was under the impression that a, bigger pump=bigger motor= higher current draw, would need bigger wires.

Just run a new 10 AWG wire to the pump and use the old fuel pump 12V+ wire (if it works) to turn a relay on and off mounted back there by the walbro. It's just one way to do it.

ok thanks, any ideas on why my fuel pumps not getting any power. it's got a Turbo II swap with the full fc harness. it wont even turn on if I jumper the yellow plug on the passengers side shock tower, all I hear is the relay.

Even through you can hear the relay doesn't mean it is working. I could hear mine, but my pump wasn't getting any power. So I bypassed the relay and it gets power now.

Wouldn't it be bad to just bypass the relay, I thought the Gsl-se had some sort of pressure switch?? That was my original question, If I wanted to run a new power line back to the fuel pump, would I run it from the ECU or the ignition switch??

I'm just a little confused on how the fuel system gets it's power.

anybody??

okay here is what you do
you run a relay, the relay get constant 12 volt powere STRAIGHT from the battery, you run the trigger wire on the relay to any ignition triggered 12 volt + wire
that makes it so when the ignition is on it triggers the relay and gives the pump DIRECT power from the battery rather than running through the whole electrical system :)

Gregs 09-30-04 04:39 AM

oh and ground the fuel pump directly to the chassis rather than using the stock grounding wire

compensate the fuel pump for where it says the fans on that diagram

Gregs 09-30-04 04:41 AM

good luck, let us know how it goes :)

alright thanks alot, thats exactly what I was looking for
