Video - Roebling Road - SCCA IT7 Racing

I wanted to thank everyone on here for helping me get the rex prepared for the driver's school this past weekend.

The car ran great - despite a shredded clutch disk in the second session. It was a simple swap to a 4 puck and I only missed out on 1 session! The swap took about an hour.

The class I run is a spec class which equates to a bone stock 12A, internally. B/c I had the suspension dialed in so well, I was able to carry a lot more speed through the corners and executed some really nice passes. Check out a video of the race - go to www.joe-racer.com and click on the video link, 1st page.

Awesome video! Looks like you got that car really well setup.

edit: the video is stopping at around 55sec for me though

2nd gens run in E Production IIRC... a moderately priced class. Spec RX-7 is a *really* cheap class to get into with a whole complete car costing under $5K... plus the cars are pretty slow so it's pretty safe too.

Spec RX-7 is basically bone stock motor with some moderately priced suspension upgrades, wheels & race tires and that's about it. Most expensive upgrade is the roll cage. Even keeps full interior and the cat... you can drive your spec 7 car to the track if you want. Autocrossing is still cheaper, but if you want actual wheel-to-wheel racing spec 7 is super cheap, maybe the cheapest class there is.

nice thanks for the insight

nice video, did that mr2 get bumped? also, are you really running a cat? doesn't sound like it. And I'm curious what rear suspension are you running? tri link and panhard? or something else?

Joe-Racer 02-15-07 05:09 AM

I couldnt tell if the Mister 2 was bumped. They are tail happy cars by nature - but in the video the Miata was very close to his rear qtr. Also, that Miata is an ITA car - not a spec Miata - so it had about 40-50 more hp than I do. But when I saw the Miata lift for the spinning MR2, I punched it and exited the right hander with more speed than him. I also beat him to the next corner (just barely). You cant see it - but we entered the left turn side by side. If you listen close, you can hear it when I finally pull ahead. Its also why I took a wide line in that corner.

FYI - my class is IT7, which is a step up from Spec7. We can change the shocks, springs, exhaust, carb, etc. It's certainly more than 5K for an IT7 car. I'd say about 10-12K if you are building one yourself and you want to be competitive. Just the engine and rollcage will set you back 6K.

I have a 3link rear. The hooks up very nicely with this setup.

Your FB sounds awesome. Trying to follow in your footsteps once I find a hard top FB. Thanks for sharing with us. The MR-2 went to the sand trap heavens huh?

Post more info/pics on your 3-link, if you would please.
