variable resistor
 

i have searched and can't find what i am looking for. i understand that the VR adjusts the mixture. i am gettting power loss at high rpm. i have adjusted the TPS properly with the lights. the timing is slightly off. however, i do not have the variable resistor. it is on its way to me. how importsnt is this part for normal running and could it be the cause of a high rpm power fade? the engine under load runs fine until about 4500rpm then it pulls slugishly to redline. what are some ideas out there? i am fed up with this car but i don't want to give up on it. i am almost at the point of desperation here. thank you for looking.
