value of a running 12a

What is the value now a days for a running 12a? What if it was rebuilt and is still running strong. Is there a big price difference between a 12a that has 15,000 miles or 50,000 miles? What if most the emissions are stripped and the gas/oil was manually premixed (mixed in the gas tank). What if it's a complete package, trans, clutch, carb, motor. I'd appreciate any info you guys have regarding the value of these motors. I know they are very difficult to come by now.
Thanks,
Chris

One of the main issues with the 12A is that Mazda does not make parts for them anymore. So when they are gone that's it. No more 12A.
Nothing wrong with the engine. Just gonna get harder and harder to find parts for the internals.

A running 12A is, sadly, part of a dying breed. Since Mazda discontinued them, their days are numbered. Most people just upgrade to the 13B which are getting cheaper and cheaper. The value is realy worth what someone is willing to pay. I would guess its worth in the $500-$800 range. To someone wanting to replace a blown engine, that may be on the high end. To someone wanting the good housings for a re-build to stay within a racing class, that might be on the low end. It all depends on the buyers need, your location, and a bit of good timing on your part when you sell.

Good luck!

300-500$ depending on condition, prolly could sell for more then that. That's $ w/out anything included. Short Block Assembly that is..
I think they should be worth much much more then that!

An excellent pair of 12a housings that a determined buyer (class racer) and inspect is more valuable that a running engine.

That being said, a healthy running 12a is hard to find!!

For some, the swap is not ideal when they realize they need to some fabbing (even minor), get a new (or used) exhaust and then an intake and like a suitable carb. Sure a running 6 port s5 na would be great. But all the rest would sure add up too and then you gotta find a gslse oil pan too. Used oil pan and pickup, header, rb intake, carb could add up to $500-1000 pretty quick, where as a 12a replacement is a bolt in affair. We all know how cheap the average FB owner is!

My advice if you want to sell an engine, leave it in the car so it can be tested rather than simply trusted, that will obviously fetch the top dollar. I know of a 13b TII engine for a cheap price, housings are new, etc etc but it is an amateur home garage build that has to be trusted rather than tested......scary.
