Vacuum leak?

Hey whats up guys? Tried doing some searching and talked to RP. I got an 85 GSL-SE and it has 225k, original motor. My car likes to fluxuate between 2-3rpms and then makes it almost impossible to drive because it gets so bad. Have to drive it in 3rd to semi controll it. Well i called RP and they told me it was vacuum leak. Well I went to Mexico, came back , changed my spark plugs and spark plug wires. Also i had to recently change my fuel pump. Anyways, I started her up the other day and it did not fluxuate. Now do you think this is a vacuum leak if it fluxuates again or what could some other symptoms be? I need to replace my hoses because they are getting kinda old (still manufacture) what is the best brand that you guys go with? Anyways, yea I got a friend that said he would fix it, but i just wanted to see what you guys thought it could be. I always come here and post before i make a final move with anything and it always saves me money.

sound like the BAC to meee. or an idle adjustment

Did this happen in wet weather, or when the engine might have gotten wet? I'm not very familiar with the injection system on the 7s, but I once had some water in the connection to the throttle position sensor on a datsun and it produced the same symptoms described in your post.

If it is not doing it anymore, I wouldn't worry too much about it. Good luck! :)

well see. This dirty little thing comes and goes. It started happening about 3mnths ago, then I had a bad fuel pump, took it to this guy to replace it, said he did bastard replaced it with a cardboard one after i had bought the right one. I started driving, crashed out on the highway, saw what he did, got pissed. had to re-direct the fuel pump, got pissed yelled at the moron. Then drove to an Ex's one day and whabaam.. started to fluxuate worse than it ever had. It was a sunny afternoon. Drove it home and have started it a few times and havent had the problem. So yea...dont know, maybe i will take her out for a drive tomrrow and see whats up.

You might want to pick up a can of wire dryer. Try spraying it around all of the electrical connections around your MAF sensor.

get a knowledgeable tech to check the bac and adjust your throttle position sensor. Also check for free movement of your afm.

your car is reflecting your mood, stay happy.

on a more serious note i wouldn't worry about it unless it starts back up, it may have been one of the things you've replaced such as a fowled plug/s not sparking or what not.
