To get back to the V8 point: there are only 2 types of engines worth using: Rotary ( of course ) , and V8. I'm a huge fan of Rotary engines and also a huge fan of V8s. Swapping one into the other's car however is wrong I say. The point of the 7 is to have an engine that no other does. Why put another in it? I've got 2 cars: an 84 RX7 and a 1987 Monte Carlo SS with a 355 in it. I wouldn't dream of mixing them up! They bth work great in they're cars!
If Mazda wanted a V8 in the 7 , they would have put it in themselves! |
What alot of people don't relize is that some of the greatest cars in the world are a mixing of parts from different manufactures. There will always be negative opinions about people that swap engines and mix up parts, but when thier car stomps a hole in the "pure" car of a non-believer is when people start believing.

I'm plotting to shoehorn a Renesis into a roadster (I even made this pretty video to impress a prospective investor), so I guess swaps happen in both directions

It is not that hard of a swap. Only custom part you would need is a header if you want to keep the a/c. And there is a guy who makes them for the ranger cheap. Mine was a POS, but fun. Stock 2.3turbo, Starion front mount IC and 20# of boost. converted it to a T5 and a 3.73lsd rearend :) http://members.sigecom.net/randyh/ranger.jpg http://members.sigecom.net/randyh/starionrng1.jpg http://members.sigecom.net/randyh/starionrng2.jpg |

I think i'll be the only one dropping in here thats working on doing a turbo buick swap in a 1st gen
I know of a couple second gens and one first gen but that guy dont post on any boards that i know of car should be capable of mid to low 9's without pushing it too hard and get upper 20's for mileage on the trip to the track and back heres the lastest pic of my motor i've got its still in my ttype right now and im trying to work some bugs out of the fuel curve thats causing me t lean out so I havent been able to crank the boost yet.. over 3600# and been several 10.90's at 126-127 mph and got more in it https://www.rx7club.com/forum/attach...postid=1367306 |
Millions? To swap a Renesis into a Mercedes??? It's no more difficult than a V8 into an FB.
|
Not bad...10's in a 3600# car. Are you going to have to make a new exh manifold to fit that turbo under the hood of a FB? -Cam |
havent done the fitting there but going by picks and info from the other 1st gen with turbo buick motor it will need a scoup of some sort in the middle to clear the t/b and uppipe
the turbo will sit inline between the strut towers so the hood hasent started rolling down at that point so the turbo should fit the ceterline of the turbo in his is pretty much centerline of the front suspention so the complete motor is behind the front tires with no firewall modifications |
I want to put one of those V6s in a Corvette one of these years.
But a V8 in an RX-7 - it's just not right, somehow. Like a barking cat. |
Originally posted by gamble302 hey futant, you get that beast up yet? howd the seats work out? yup runs and drives great, however I got a ticket going to get exhaust connected to dual rb. , and they wouldn't weld it up either (cats, or lackof) when i arrived. now getting it legal this weekend. need fiberglass hood, panhard mod, with 275's squeezed under the rear bodywork! I keep my ass on torquecentral.com, I just come here for laughs! BTW i am also building ~450hp f-body 94formula w/ford 9" rear end. 10's or bust. rex will be a daily driver. |
I have a lead on a 74 Pinto wagon :D |
The stock upper intake manifold will fit under the hood of the pinto. I had to throw the one in the rx7 together to get it under the hood.
The stock intakes work pretty well, they just need the uppers gutted and some mild porting to the lower. Just doa search on Turboford on "gutted upper" and you should find out quite a bit. BTW, I am Randy on the turboford board. I have taken a short vacation from posting there for a while. ;) Needed a break. I have a few pics of 2.3turbo pintos, if you want them just ask. Later Randy |
in the somewhat near future i plan on selling the rexer i got right now and getting a less original one to toss a 302 t5 in.
