URGENT suspension bolt

The two bolts that hold the front shock assembly to the front control arm/ I need a replacement bolt for the long one. It's the 17mm bolt. Where can I find this? Mazda has to special order it and it will take a week. I need it today!

take one out and bring it with you to a hardware store. Match the size and the threads (they'll "sink" into each other if they match) and buy a washer. probably m14x1.5, but don't quote me

+1 on the hardware store.

I always just go to the hardware store..

I thought about that but it's a weird bolt. I'll try it. Worse case I'll just have to wait for the new bolt.

I recently had to order one off the net cause it was not availible locally, it is a strange size.

Make sure you buy the proper grade of bolt, too, as well as size. Never use low-grade hardware for critical applications, like suspension.

Do you remember where you might have ordered it from? I managed to get the bolt back in and torqued, but I'd feel better if I put a new one in.

Like Divin Driver stated. You MUST get the same grade bolt. There is a reason for it.

Ya no doubt. It's a grade 10 bolt. No point in putting in a lower grade bolt. That's why I went ahead and tried to make the OEM one work instead of risking a lower grade from Lowe's.

Also, the bolts are cadmium plated

Stevan 01-21-11 06:18 PM

Napa has it in grade 8.

I compared it to the lug bolt and it was the same thread pitch.
