Upgrading
I have a question for anyone out there. I just bought a 1984 RX-7 (automatic) off of a good friend. It's in great condition (aside from the brakes which I just got fixed =P ) the body is good and most importantly the engine seems to be fine. My only complaint about the car is that it has extreamly poor acceleration. Is there anything I can do to increase the acceleration speed? new parts? engine overhaul? anything at all? =P
Anyways, I'de appreciate the help if anyone is able to give me some. =) |
Manual tranny, better exhaust/intake, just about any mod you can think of. If you want some quick, cheap pickup, try a K&N filter and a tune up

we also need to know what model the car is,
it may be fuel injected,it may be carburated, im sure the first thing you will hear on this forum when it comes to upgrades is exhaust, exhaust, exhaust, but before you do the exhaust we need to knwo what model your car is, this will also help in giving us an idea of the cheapest possible route, since thats the route everyone seems to be choosing. |
No auto GSL-SE's.

Put a Racing Beat exhaust for the firsat thing. You can have your stall converter modified to engage at a different point. That way your closer to the power before it moves.. Most people think that performance and automatics are not 2 words to use together in the same sentence. I do not agree.

oh right! sorry, the model...
its an RX-7 GSL and its carburated if you guys need any more info just holler =) |
I hate to tell you this, but as long as you have an automatic, your acceleration is not going to be impressive. Auto's don't work well with low torque cars, and guess what.........rotaries have zip for torque.
Sorry. I own a 90 vert with a streetport, and the acceleration is still pretty dismal. hanman |

2) do you have to battle with emissions? 3) how handly with the wrench are ya? 1) I'll willing to spend around 1000-1500 USD, the less the better =P 2) I'm having no problems with emmisions. 3) I'm not too handy with the wrench myself however, a good friend of mine is. |

if you donot ahve to worry about emissions, then dump the cats. rb exhaust would be a good go. well thats 800 bucks right there.. i would also upgrade your fuel pump (probably a carter with a holley regulator). there is a nother hundred or so.
