Upgraded Suspension recommendations
Hello folks, I am in the market for some new suspension (springs/struts), but it seems that every time I search the forums most the recommendations are things like ReSpeed/Eibach Pro Kit/Tokico's and a bunch of other items that it looks like are not made anymore. My FB is currently on stock suspension and I am looking to drop the car 1-1.5" and runs some slightly stiffer spring rates. It is strictly a street car so it doesn't need anything crazy. I have found a few coilover options available but they all seem to be $1,200+. I am just looking for some springs and shocks that won't break the bank. Any recommendations would be much appreciated.

I'm running Racing Beat springs and KYB shocks and I find the combination to be quite decent for a street car that does a bit of occasional autocross.
You can get the springs either from RB directly, or Mazdatrix if you prefer them: Suspension Spring Sets - Early Rotary & 1979-85 Mazda RX-7 79-85 Anti-Sway Bars and Springs Same with shocks, RB or Mazdatrix: Suspension Shocks - Early Rotary & 1979-85 Mazda RX-7 79-85 Suspension Cheers, Jon |
+1 on the RB springs for the street. You're not going to get 1.5" with them though. I don't think you can go wrong with Koni or KYB for dampers.

I did the RB springs. The Koni's from RB (new old stock) and I got a pair of foxbody Koni's for the rear (search the forum for more info). I've been running them for a year for track and autocross and the occasional street driving. It was cheap and very very effective.

The KYB are actually a really good shock on the rear. Not much chop on front unless keeping near stock ride height and spring weight though.

I have personally not used them, but B&G suspension S2 series for the 1st Gen says it lowers it 1.4 inches.

Thanks for asking the question, I too will be looking for a suspension upgrade and have been wondering the same. |
