ummm....wha? scam?
 

yeah, i know, probably not the proper forum to post this, but 1st gen forum is where i do post, so check this out.

this is an email to me regarding my honda crx for sale. i think i've heard of some kind of scam that involves the seller cashing a cheque, sending the remaining balance to the buyer, and then getting scammed cuz the cheque doesn't ever clear. these guys need to try harder. i mean, i never even sent him a pic, and he says something about seeing the pic and that he's ok with it. anyone else ever get this type of email when selling a car? this is so fucked

Thanks for your mail, as for the price of $800.00, i find it quite
reasonable, and i'll have my client to go for it, but since i
wouldn't be able to come over myself, as i am tied down now with
other negotiations, i'll have my client issue you a cheque for
$3000.00 this will cover the shipping expenses and my agents fee and
his travelling expenses, to come over and pick up the car for
shipping.
I don't mind the cheque having to get cleared by the bank before we
get the car, but i want to know if i can trust you on sending the
remaining balance to my agent through Western union Money Transfer
as soon as the cheque is cashed.
To start with the procurement of the cheque, i'll need the
following information from you:
Your full address (street,city/town,state,Country and post code)phone
number and full name to be written on the cheque

N.B i want to let you know that i will not be able to come and look
at the car,because i will be on a business trip,so dont worry about
that my shipping agent will take good care of that.have also seen
the pic am ok with it,so i would not want to take any chances in
buying the car,because i want to present it to my son as a birthday
gift.

anything like that involving western union usually is a scam.....just look at some of the stuff on ebay.

you'd think they'd put more energy into making it seem more realistic...

i mean he says he likes the pic...(i have no pic).

and asking whether or not a modified crx is running on petrol or diesel?. like wtf?

now, what if the guy sent me a cheque and i cashed it. what would keep me from just keeping the money to myself and sending nothing?

the check is for a account that doesnt have any money in it and your bank would subtract the 3k from your account. So then YOU owe your bank the money. Scarey stuff. It would take days before your bank would know the check was bad.

Pretty sad that it's getting to the point that sellers have to be more cautious than buyers

Yeah, I got a similar B.S. email when I was seling my Accord. Same kind of weird, fishy sounding mistakes. Maybe they like to target honda owners?
