As you may or may not know Paul Aber has the Sevens only big brake kit and has been tweaking it along the way.
well now the tweaking has gone further with a new master and booster from a non Mazda.
The brakes are beyond good, beyond great, beyond fantastic.

I'll try to let Paul describe how it works, but its amazing.
I'm going to be trying this on my stock GSL-SE setup because the pedal feel and control is amazing, ands it a pretty easy swap.

Yeah? Well right now my tires are a whole lot better than my brakes are, and they're old, cheap, SNOW TIRES!!! :D

I hate the brakes on this car, some of the worst I've used........I keep an anchor chained to the back bumper that I can throw out for those emergency stops....

Do you know what that cylinder and booster are out of, and the specs such as internal pistion diameter?

OMG! You got my attention. I want good brakes, tire of the stock brake system so come on dude. Spit out the info, hehe we are all ears! ... hmmm... I mean all eyes! =P

Ok, first this mod will double the assist from the brake booster. Giving you very good control over the brakes. Now for my setup, I have the 7’s only front brake kit with 11.75in rotors and the OutLaw 3000/4000 calipers with Hawk HPS pads. Back brakes are stock with Axxis pads. The booster and master cylinder is a two stage unit out of a 2001 Isuzu Sport V6. As many of you know the RX-8 uses a two stage master cylinder, the advantage of a two stage master cylinder is pedal feel is very good.

The install is for the most part “bolt in”J I used the factory spacer and the Isuzu spacer on back of the booster. This brings the booster out from the firewall enough to clear and also lines up the booster input rod on the brake pedal. The end of the input rod needs to be trimmed about a inch to keep the rod from hitting on the brake pedal. Back under the hood: the Isuzu master only has two outputs as the mazda had three. So I had to use a T fitting. The hardest part was making the lines because I could only find a SAE T fitting. So I had to cut metric lines and double flange SAE fittings onto them. As you can see from the pictures I am using a adjustable proportioning valve I don’t know this would work with a stock valve.

What're you running for REAR brakes? Every big brake conversion upgrades front brakes only.

EDIT: Isuzu "Sport" is not a valid model name... Perhaps it was a Rodeo? Rodeo was available in two trims. 4 door suv and 2 door Sport model...

Also available are the Trooper and VehiCross. The VehiCross looks kinda sporty... For an SUV.

EDIT AGAIN: Holy shit. Isuzu's parts bin must be small. It looks like they used that same cylinder in:

1998-2001 Isuzu Rodeo
1998-2001 Isuzu Amigo

1996-1997 Acura SLX
1998-2001 Honda Passport
(Both built by Isuzu, obviously...)

Years might even get larger than that... That's just the local junk yard search. (At least the insane prices pay for a nice database.)

It should be easy to find cheaply, anywhere in the country.

actually the Amigo was the 2 door Rodeo...

Isuzu called it's 2 door SUV the Amigo from 98-00 then renamed it the Rodeo Sport in 2001-3 then dropped it entirely.

FYI the 98+ 4 door Rodeo is the same as Amigo / Sport from the windshield forward.

I own a 99 Amigo V6, never knew my brake master was 2 stage. It does have good pedal feel especially with my Porterfield R4-S pads ;)

7sOnly also sells a trick brake master, seen it on their GT-2 racecars. Contact them for more info including pricing.

Would you happen to know the internal diameter of the piston in one of those units?

I'm not sure on the size. Looks like the first stage is about 1.25" and the second stage; I have know idea (I don't want to take it apart).

For those of you that don't know how a two stage master works here is a quick rundown: First stage takes up all the slack using a large piston. As the brakes start to "bite" the second stage kicks in using a smaller piston for more levarge. This gives you a hard pedal and good brake "feel".

Hrm... interesting. Got me thinking at any rate... though honestly, after we had the booster on the race car die once, I'm not entirely sure I like power brakes, y'know?

My completely stock 2000 Isuzu Vehicross. BTW it's got the 3.5L V6. Frame and running gear is a 2 door Trooper which I beleive was not imported to the USA.
