Tyre size question

I have found some 16 x 7 mags brand new for $695 and was looking at tyres to fit em before i bought the mags, i can get 225/50/16 Yokohamas for $120 each but the 215/50/16 and 205/50/16 are over $150 each.

Will i be able to fit the 225's all the way round? Will 225's up front put too much stress on the steering? Will i need to put on some new springs and shocks so the tyres dont hit the guard as i have the original's on?

I have a 1980 SA22C, currently i have 185/70/13 with hard compund tyres and it is like driving on ice when the road is wet.

50 series are definately too big???

i dunno, your rax might start to look like a landrover.

The big tyres will also cut into your performance a bit...so il go with 680rwhp on this and opt in for 40's. 50 will be to big i think, it wouldnt look nice.

The things is the 225/50's are soo much cheaper than any other size for some reason. Would 225/50's on the back and 215/50's on the front work ok?

Performance wise the jump from 13" 185's to 16" 225's should mean i can launch alot faster, maybe 4,000 rpm.....i will have to see. To keep the original diameter i needed 225/45's so they won't be much bigger diameter and therefore not slow me down too much. I will worry about performance in a years time when i finish uni and can afford it, get the full chabang done, recond my 13B with better seals to handle high boost, bridge port, turbo or twin turbo, haltech etc and get some decent HP figures.

My next mods are prob
16' mags and tyres (maybe 15's, they are more expensive for some reason)
Suspension (Still have original configuration, rear shocks leaking oil supposedly)
Alarm Sys and central locking
Diff (Very worn......huge backlash)
Twin Davis 10' thermo fans
Window tint (If i can get in done for a carton of beer)

50's are too big for the front of the car, the tires will rub on the fenders when you turn

You want to get some side wall on there man ;) You will get a better hook with those 225's but as far as drag racing goes you want a thicker side wall then 40 series...
